Volleyball Falls to Long Beach State in Four Sets

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Brown volleyball team (1-3, 0-0 Ivy League) won its first set, but ultimately fell 3-1 to Long Beach State University (4-2, 0-0 Big West) on Friday night in the Golden State.

Fisayo Afonja led all players in kills (18), while Elle Holley earned eight and Ally Panzloff added seven. Sarah Shaw, Sophia Wolfson, and Afonja all tallied two blocks.

The Bears won the first set in extra points, 26-24. Holley and Panzloff added key kills at the end of the set to earn the team a win to go up 1-0.

The team was able to come back from a four-point deficit in the second set to make it close. There were several earned points that resulted in a tie at 23, but Long Beach was able to pull away to win the set 25-23.

Just like the previous two sets, the third set was another close one. Both teams went back and forth in scoring in the beginning, but the Beach pulled away to go up 19-15. From there, the Bears dropped the set 25-17. Long Beach continued their momentum and dominated the fourth set to secure the win 25-12.

Next up, the Bears will compete against LMU on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. to close out their West Coast trip.
