PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's soccer team (4-2-0) secured their fourth victory of the season over UMass Lowell (4-3-1), 4-1 on Saturday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"Great win for the guys tonight," Operations Coordinator David Hughes said. "We were able to score early and press a lot in the first half. In the second half we really came alive." "I really enjoyed watching them come together as a group, and score some goals together," said Hughes.
The Bears had a strong start to the match, getting on the board in just the sixth minute. Junior forward Lorenzo Amaral shot the ball from just outside of the box, netting his first goal of the season. Brown then held a 1-0 edge over UMass Lowell.
Four minutes later, the River Hawks responded with the equalizer. UMass' Alex Champagne scored the teams' lone goal of the night.
Brown rounded out the first half out shooting UMass Lowell 8-3.
Coming out of the break, the Bears were eager to get back on the board. In the 72nd minute, junior forward Carlo Brown did just that, scoring the second goal of the night and his first of the season. Amaral carried the ball to the corner of the box, sending a backwards pass to Stistrup Petersen. Stistrup Petersen then sent a quick pass to Brown in front of the net for the score.
Just 39 seconds later, Amaral set up an opportunity that senior forward Jamin Gogo Peters capitalized on. A late tackle from the River Hawks was unable to stop Brown's opportunity.
In the 86th minute, junior forward Diego Elizalde worked his way in, sending a shot by UMass' goalkeeper Alvaro Madrano to give the Bears extra insurance.
Sophomore goalkeeper Max Pfaffman made his second-straight start, facing six shots while making two saves.
