PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's soccer team (2-2-0) dropped their contest to the UConn Huskies (5–0-2) on Wednesday night.
"Credit to UConn on the result tonight. It says a lot about their staff and program to travel and play this historic rivalry game, it's great for college soccer," Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair Chase Wileman said. "Clearly, we didn't start off well and after 20 minutes the game could've been over, but once we got our footing we grew into the game and anything could've happened as we had some good chances. I'm proud of the guys for fighting and I saw a lot of positives we can build on."
The Bears came out recording two shots within the first few minutes of the game. UConn retaliated, earning their three goals of the night in the first half.
UConn's Charlie Holmes put the Huskies on the board in the 11th minute, giving them the 1-0 edge over Brown. Four minutes later Nicolas Tomerius extended the Huskies' lead, 2-0. Austin Brummet capped off UConn's scoring in the 20th minute.
Sophomore forward Timi Browne netted his first collegiate goal in the 30th minute of the contest. Junior forward Lorenzo Amaral took the ball to the corner of the box before sending it over to Browne. Browne headed the ball past UConn goalkeeper Kyle Durham for the goal.
The Huskies outshot the Bears in the first half 11-6. Brown leveled out the shots by the end, posting 12 shots to UConn's 14. Both teams held each other off from scoring in the second half.
The competition remained physical throughout all 90 minutes of competition. UConn ended the night with 16 fouls, while Brown ended with 15.
