PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the second straight week, Brown freshman pitcher Drew Nelson has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. This comes on the heels of Nelson's latest stellar outing this past weekend against Princeton.
Nelson delivered a dominant start for the second weekend in a row, shutting down the Tigers over 8.0 innings, allowing just one unearned run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts, all on 95 pitches. At one point, he retired 12 batters in a row from the third to the seventh innings.
His performance kept Princeton's offense at bay throughout and helped power Brown to a 14-1 win, and a three-game series sweep.
Dating back to last weekend's start, he has not allowed an earned run over his last 15.0 IP.
Brown has now won five Ivy weekly awards over the last four weeks:
Pitcher of the Week: Peter Dubie (March 9), Dylan Reid (March 23)
Rookie of the Week: Camren Piwnicki (March 16), Drew Nelson (March 23 and March 31)
Nelson and the Bears will return to action this afternoon against Bryant before traveling to Harvard for a three-game series this weekend.
