FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Brown men's soccer team (2-0-0) secured their second consecutive win on Monday night, defeating Fairfield (2-1-0) 1-0.
I thought overall it was a great performance from the group today, Assistant Coach Steven Tekesky said. It came down to mentality for us in the end. We were able to limit Fairfield's chances, while creating some of our own, said Tekesky. We were able to get on top of the game in the second half, about halfway through, when Lorenzo found Mads in the back post for a tap in goal, and then finished it out defensively.
The opening minutes of the first half offered no clear edge to either side. The action picked up in the 10th minute when Marshall Treese fired the first shot. The Bears recorded three more shots before generating a true scoring opportunity. Lorenzo Amaral took a shot toward the bottom right of the goal, but Fairfield's Evan Chomow made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.
Amaral and Timi Browne attempted to capitalize on their opportunities in the later end of the first half, but were unsuccessful. The Bears closed out the half out shooting the Stags, 7-0.
Fairfield threatened early in the second half with their first opportunity of the night, but Brown's back line quickly shut the chance down.
In the 58th minute Mads Stistrup Petersen cashed in for the Bears, putting them up 1-0. Due to the Stags' error, Amaral picked up the ball and carried it into the box before sending it off to Stistrup Petersen for the goal.
Fairfield attempted to rally in the remaining time, with six shots to Brown's three to close out the second half.
Goalkeeper Henrik Weiper helped secure the win for the Bears with his crucial save on Cole Dougherty's shot with just three minutes left on the clock.
The Bears improve to a 2-0-0 record, and look to keep their momentum rolling in their next match on Friday.
