BOSTON, Mass. - The Brown men's soccer team dropped their first match of the season 3-1 to Boston University on Friday night at Nickerson Field.
Disappointed with the result and performance tonight, Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair Chase Wileman said. We scored a really good goal on a wide free kick, and made it interesting for a bit. In the end we played at about 80% of our level and that's not good enough at this level. We just have to go back to work and get ready for UConn. said Wileman.
Competition was tight in the first half, with both teams playing to a scoreless draw at the break. Both teams stayed close in shots, with Boston University having a slight edge over the Bears. The Terriers recorded four shots to the Bears' three.
Goalkeeper Henrik Weiper made two saves in the first half, including a diving save to tip the ball above the crossbar.
The Terriers struck first, getting on the board just 40 seconds into the second half. Lapo Romieri snuck by Brown's defense, sending the ball to the bottom left corner of the net for his second goal of the season.
Three minutes later, BU doubled their lead over the Bears with a goal from Austin Mobray.
The Bears retaliated in the 52nd minute of the contest. Mads Stistrup Petersen booted the ball on Brown's free kick, sending it right past Terriers' goalkeeper Ben Alexander. This marks Stistrup Petersen's third consecutive game scoring a goal. He now leads Brown with three goals for six points.
BU capped off their scoring with one last goal in the 64th minute.
Brown recorded seven shots to BU's nine, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
