PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's soccer team (1-0-0) began their 2025 campaign with a 2-1 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders (0-2-1).
We started off the game really well, and then took our foot off the gas a little bit. Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair Chase Wileman said. We just have to keep working. It's the first game and we can go from here, continuing to get better and improve.
The Bears started off strong with Mads Stistrup Petersen scoring the first goal of the game and season in just the fourth minute. Stistrup Petersen posted up in front of the goal in preparation of Greyson Mitchell's throw in. After bouncing off Mathias Hille, Stistrup Petersen headed the ball into the back of the net getting the Bears on the board first.
Holy Cross responded eight minutes later, when Cayden Walton scored from right outside of the box.
Both teams battled to a 1-1 draw at halftime. The Bears outshot the Crusaders in the first half, 7-4.
Brown's second, and game-winning goal was scored by Jamin Gogo Peters in the 87th minute. Marshall Treese took the ball down the field, sending it over to Gogo Peters to stay in bounds. Gogo Peters headed the ball towards the net, as it bounced by Mateo Buyu rolling over the goal line.
Holy Cross outshot Brown in the second half 12-2, but were unable to get anything past goalkeeper Henrik Weiper. Weiper made two saves, keeping the Bears on top.
