
Softball to Take on Princeton in First Round of Ivy Tournament on Thursday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball makes its first appearance at the Ivy League Tournament taking on No. 1 seed Princeton on Thursday (May 8) at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field at Princeton. First pitch between the Bears and Tigers is set for 10 a.m.
All games of the Ivy League Tournament will be streamed on ESPN+. Tickets for the tournament must be bought online and can be found here.
IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
THE FIRST PITCH
• Brown earned its first berth in the Ivy League Tournament with a walk-off 4-3 win over Princeton last weekend. The Bears clinched their first 30-win season since 1992 with the victory.
• Brown will now turn around to face Princeton in the first round of the Ivy Tournament. The Bears and Tigers have alternated wins in the last nine meetings.
• Laurel Moody broke the Brown single season home run record with her 14th home run against Bryant earlier this year and has also set the program record for RBI (37) and walks (29) in a season. Moody's 58 hits this season are tied for the Brown program record.
• Alexis Guevara became the program leader in strikeouts in a season (128) and strikeouts in a career (327) with a 14-strikeouts performance at Central Connecticut.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
•. Princeton earned the No. 1 seed with a 17-4 Ivy League mark and was 26-16 overall.
•. Julia Dumais led the Tigers with a .360 average in the regular season. Karis Ford finished the year with a .348 average and team-high nine home runs and 38 RBI.
• Brielle Wright posted a team-best 2.91 ERA and had 106 strikeouts in 120.1 innings, posted an 11-5 overall record.
SHUTTING THE BATS DOWN
• The eight shutouts are the most for a Brown pitching staff since the 1996 season when that staff finished the year with nine.
EARNING THE HONORS
• Brown has taken home seven Ivy League weekly honors this season.
• Alexis Guevara has earned five Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors, being awarded the honors on March 10, 17, April 7, April 16 and April 29.
• Laurel Moody has won Player of the Week honors twice (March 10 & 31).
• Amanda Deng took home Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on March 31.
THE BIG 3-0
• The Bears 30 wins are the most since 1992 when the Bears won 31 games
• The program record for wins in a season is 33 back in 1991.
• Brown has a winning overall record for the first season since 1996 (24-14).
QUICK START
• Brown started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010 as the Bears earned a wins over Youngstown State and Winthrop.
• The Bears followed that up with a 7-3 start, the best 10-game start for the squad since the 2016 season.
• The win against Youngstown State was the first for Brown's head coach Mary Holt-Kelsch, who took over the program in August.
BRINGING IN THE RUNS
• Brown has scored in double-digits seven times this season.
• The last time Brown scored double-digit runs in more than five games was back in 1993 when the Bears accomplished the feat nine times.
MISSING THE RUN SUPPORT
• Alexis Guevara has been charged with 18 losses where she has allowed two earned run or less.
• Guevara has lost 11 games when allowing two earned runs and seven games where she only allowed a single earned run.
SETTING RECORDS
• On top of the individual records and team records set in the sidebar to the left, Brown has set or is on the verge set even more records in Holt-Kelsch's first season.
• With one more hit, Laurel Moody will set the single season record for hits (59). Moody set the walk record (29) for a single season earlier this year. The senior also sits one run tie of fifth all-time in program history (35).
• With one more win, Alexis Guevara will move into fourth place all-time in single season wins at Brown with 18.
• As a team, Brown set the program record for RBI in a season with 190, the Bears sit at 191.
• The Bears sit at second all-time in both runs scored (228) and home runs (31). The single season record for runs scored in a season for Brown is 236 and the home run record is 32.
THE HOLT-KELSCH EFFECT
• In her first season at the helm of the Bears, Mary Holt-Kelsch has led Brown to its first Ivy Tournament appearance and first 30-win season since 1992.
• Brown's 13 Ivy wins are the most in program history by three victories.
• With her 23rd win of the season, Holt-Kelsch became the winningest first-year head coach in Brown program history.
FINDING THE SECOND ARM
• After Guevara, Brown found its second arm on the pitching staff in sophomore Macy Borowski.
• Borowski finished the regular season with a 9-4 record, boasting a 3.76 ERA and 59 strikeouts.
• During league play, Borowski lowered her ERA to 3.11, going 3-1.
DENG GOOD FIRST YEAR
• Amanda Deng has posted a fantastic first season on College Hill, finished third on the team with a .305 batting average and is leading the team with four triples.
• Deng is second on the team in both hits (40) and RBI (25).
• During league play, Deng has upped her average to .328 with 12 runs driven in.
THREAT AT THE PLATE TOO
• Alexis Guevara has been a threat at the plate as well as being one of the best pitchers in the league.
• During Ivy League play, Guevara is hitting .318 with three doubles and seven runs driven in. She has struck out just once in 44 plate appearances.
HSIAO ME THE MONEY
• Jasmine Hsiao overcame an early season slump to retake her spot at the top of the Brown batting order.
• The junior was hitting just .200 on the season after Brown's game against Belmont on March 9. Since, Hsiao has raised her average to above .300 after the Columbia series and now sits a .288 on the year.
• Hsiao is second on the team in multi-hit games with 11, behind Moody's 16 and boasted the longest reached base streak (16) and hitting streak (12) of any Bear this year.
