No. 8 Men's Crew Sends V8 and 2V8 to Grand Final; 3V8 Qualifies for Petite Final

CAMDEN, N.J. - Entering the final day of competition at the 2025 IRA National Championship, No. 8-ranked Brown men's crew has an opportunity to win the program's eighth national title in the V8 race on Sunday afternoon. Bruno's top boat, which last took home a national championship in 1995, has been ranked inside the top ten of every IRCA/IRA poll this season and established itself as one of the country's most consistently dominant crews.
"The team really showed up today with great energy and self belief. We had our best team performance of the year," said Men's Crew Head Coaching Chair Paul Cooke '89. "I'm grateful for the work our coaching staff did to get the team prepared. Rufus Biggs and Scott Cockle have been outstanding. The 3V had a heartbreaker and missed the Grand Final by a split second. Everyone raced hard and put all they had into the races and into qualification for the Grand Final. There was no room for error and they executed well."
The V8, stroked by David Person and coxed by Elenna Seguin, came in third place after crossing the finish line in 5:25.800. The Bears finished ever so slightly behind Dartmouth (5:25.590) for second place in what was one of the closest races of the season. Brown's V8 has now qualified for every Grand Final race this decade, with last year's crew finishing in fifth place. Tomorrow also marks the final race in the college careers of Enno Mönch and Oliver Page-Kuhr, the two senior leaders on Brown's V8. Both Mönch and Page-Kuhr received First Team All-Ivy honors last year, as they look to close their careers with a national championship.
The 2V8, stroked by Isaac Hillicks-Tulip and coxed by Lizzie Mitchell, posted a final time of 5:36.400 en route to a third place finish. Similarly to the V8, the 2V8 competed in a race that came down to the wire, with Syracuse (5:36.390) beating them out by the smallest margin of the season for any of Brown's crews. Coming off of a sixth place finish in the Grand Final at last year's IRA National Championship, the Bears 2V8 has earned itself another opportunity to chase gold on Sunday morning.
The 3V8, stroked by Gordy Gibbons and coxed by Jack Mershon, also stayed true to the theme of the day by finding itself in an incredibly close race on Saturday. Crossing the finish line in 5:35.970, the Bears finished in fourth place and just missed qualifying for the Grand Final behind Ivy League foe Princeton (5:35.810). The 3V8 earned three first place finishes during the regular season, including a win earlier this month at Princeton on May 3.
The V4, stroked by Uros Bogdanov and coxed by Adelaide Poulson, qualified for the Grand Final yesterday afternoon after a strong performance on Cooper River. In today's Grand Final, the Bears crossed the finish line in 6:29.120 and finished as the sixth best V4 crew in the nation. This marks the second consecutive season that Brown's V4 has finished in sixth place at the Grand Final.
In addition to the national championship, the Ten Eyck Trophy is also up for grabs tomorrow afternoon. Awarded to the program with the most total points at the end of the weekend, the Bears came in fifth place last year with 229 points.
