Softball Travels to Central Connecticut State for Midweek Doubleheader

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball will be on the road for a doubleheader against Central Connecticut State on Wednesday (April 23). First pitch of the day will be at 2 p.m. and both games will be streamed on NEC Front Row.

The First Pitch
• Brown is on the road for a doubleheader at Central Connecticut State on Wednesday as the Bears take a quick break from Ivy League play.
• The Bears took two of three games at Harvard last weekend as Brown remains in the race for a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. Brown is tied for third with Harvard and Columbia with a 9-6 record in league play and owns the tie break against both teams.
• This will be the first meeting against Central Connecticut State since 2016 and the first meeting between the two teams in New Britain since the 2005 season. Brown has won six-straight games against the Blue Devils in New Britain.
• Laurel Moody broke the Brown single season home run record with her 14th home run against Bryant earlier this year and is tied for the single season mark in RBI with 36 on the season.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
• Central Connecticut State holds a 17-25 record and 12-6 mark in Northeast Conference play.
• The Blue Devils won each of their last two conference series taking two of three games against both Mercyhurst and Stonehill.
• On the season, CCSU is hitting .235 as a team but is allowing opponents to hit .284.
• Kassandra Machado has been the power bat for CCSU this season with a team-high 11 home runs and 30 RBI.
SHUTTING THE BATS DOWN
• Brown threw back-to-back shutouts against Rhode Island and now has seven shutouts on the season.
• The seven shutouts are the most for a Brown pitching staff since the 1996 season when that staff finished the year with nine.
• Guevara was tagged for three earned runs against Columbia in her last outing, the most she had given up since allowing five against Dartmouth on March 22.
• Guevara had gone eight-straight outings that spanned 39.1 innings with only allowing two earned runs or less.
• The run in the bottom of the second against Columbia broke a scoreless stretch of 15.1 consecutive innings thrown by Guevara.
EARNING THE HONORS
• Brown has taken home seven Ivy League weekly honors this season.
• Alexis Guevara has earned four Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors, being awarded the honors on March 10, 17, April 7 and April 16.
• Laurel Moody has won Player of the Week honors twice (March 10 & 31).
• Amanda Deng took home Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on March 31.
BRINGING THE BATS TO PHILLY
• In the final two games of the series against Penn, Brown's bats exploded as the Bears finished with 12 runs in each game.
• Brown also finished the two games with 16 and 14 hits, respectively.
• It was the first time this season that Brown has had double-digit hits and runs in back-to-back games.
• The last time Brown had back-to-back games with double-digit hits was on April 15 and 16, 2023, against Dartmouth when the Bears had 11 hits in two-straight games against the Big Green.
• This was the first time Brown has scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games since the 2000-01 season when the Bears scored 10 runs and 12 runs in a doubleheader against Cornell (Brown lost both of those games.).

• The Bears 24 wins are the most since 1996 when Brown went 24-14.
• The program record for wins in a season is 33 back in 1991.

• The Bears followed that up with a 7-3 start, the best 10-game start for the squad since the 2016 season.
• The win against Youngstown State was the first for Brown's head coach Mary Holt-Kelsch, who took over the program in August.
BRINGING IN THE RUNS
• Brown has scored in double-digits seven times this season.
• The last time Brown scored double-digit runs in more than five games was back in 1993 when the Bears accomplished the feat nine times.
MISSING THE RUN SUPPORT
• Alexis Guevara has been charged with 18 losses where she has allowed two earned run or less.
• Guevara has lost 11 games when allowing two earned runs and seven games where she only allowed a single earned run.
PICKING UP THE WINS
• Alexis Guevara earned her 12th win of the season against Harvard, setting a new career-high. It is the most wins by a Bear pitcher since Kristie Chen has 12 back in 2014.
MOODY SETTING RECORDS
• Laurel Moody set the Brown single season home run record with her 14th home run of the season against Bryant. Moody now sits just four home runs away from tying the Ivy League home run record (18).
• Moody has moved into a tie for the most RBI in a season by a Bear with 36. That mark last set in the 2004 campaign by Courtney Jenkins.
STREAKING BEARS
• Jasmine Hsiao is on a 15-game reached base streak, one shy of her career-high 16, which she set last season. Hsiao's 16-game streak was the longest by a Bear since 2018 when Meghan Wimmer had a 27-game streak.
• Laurel Moody is on a career-best 11-game hitting streak, the current high for any Bear. Hsiao had a 12-game hitting streak going into the weekend against Harvard that ended in game two of the series.
