Baseball Takes Game Two to Split Saturday Doubleheader at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown baseball team rallied for a victory in game two to earn a doubleheader split with Princeton on Saturday afternoon. After the Tigers took game one by a score of 8-6, Brown pulled away down the stretch in game two for a 7-4 win.

The Bears got a combined eight hits from their six-through-nine hitters in the nightcap. Junior Logan Meusy went reached base six times in nine plate appearances over the two games, going 4-for-7 with a run and an RBI. Junior Mika Petersen went 4-for-10 with two RBIs, senior Nathan Brasher was 3-for-8 with two RBIs and two hit by pitches, and senior Jared Johnson scored two runs and added a pair of RBI singles in game two.

On the mound, junior Stiles Begnaud earned the win in game two with a scoreless relief inning. In the opener, sophomore Ryan Oshinskie tossed 4.0 innings of two-hit ball, allowing one earned run and struck out a career-high seven.

GAME ONE
Princeton held a 5-0 lead into the fifth inning after peppering the Bears for five runs on five hits in the third.

Brown rallied to tie the game by batting around and scoring five times in the fifth, with Brasher forcing in a run with a bases loaded hit by pitch. With two outs and the bases loaded, DJ Dillehay doubled down the line in right to clear the bases, and two batters later, Mark Henshon popped a single down the right field line to score Dillehay and tie the game.

Princeton took the lead right back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, starting the frame with two walks and two RBI singles.

Brown pulled within one once again the eighth when Brandon Chang led off with a single and scored on a two-out hit by Meusy, but Princeton came back with an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth before holding on in the ninth for the 8-6 win.

GAME TWO
Princeton scored twice in the first inning before the Bears began their comeback with a run in the fifth when Christian Butera tripled with two outs and scored on a single by Meusy.

The Bears took control with three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to take a 7-2 lead. Gunner Boree delivered the go-ahead hit with a two-out, two-run single. Two batters later, Petersen drove the ninth pitch of the at bat into right field for another RBI single.

In the eighth, Johnson delivered his second RBI single of the game, Brasher tagged an RBI knock to center field and Petersen followed with his second RBI single in as many at bats to give Brown a five-run lead.

The Tigers used a two-out, two-run single to pull within 7-4 in the eighth, but that was as close as they would get.

The two teams will close out their three-game series on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for noon on ESPN+.
