Baseball Rallies Late for Extra Inning Win at Princeton

PRINCETONL N.J. – A big five-run eighth inning and a four-run 10th helped lift the Brown baseball team to a 12-8 Easter Sunday win in 10 innings at Princeton, helping the Bears win two out of three in the weekend series. Eight of Brown's nine starters registered hits in the game, with DJ Dillehay picking up three hits and four RBIs, and Mika Petersen adding three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored, including a solo home run and the game-winning knock.

One day after throwing 79 pitches in a start, Santhosh Gottam earned the win in relief for Brown, tossing the final 1.2 innings with three strikeouts.

The Tigers struck for one run on three hits in the bottom of the first. Logan Meusy helped get the Bears off the field with a huge diving catch and threw to second to double off the runner and end the inning.

Brown tied it 1-1 in the third as Petersen walked with one out, stole second, then came in on a single by Dillehay.

Princeton retook the lead on a double, single, and sac fly in the fourth to make it 3-1. The Bears got back within one on a leadoff home run by Petersen in the fifth to cut it to 3-2.

Brown drew even in the seventh with Nathan Brasher tripling to center field and coming home one batter later on a sac fly by Petersen. Princeton came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead 5-3.

The Bears once again provided an answer with a big five-run eighth inning, sending 10 men to the plate to take their first lead of the day, 8-5. Mark Henshon drove in Brandon Chang with a single, and Meusy drove in Henshon with a sac fly two batters later to tie the game. Boree followed with an RBI single to center field to give the Bears the lead. Three batters later, Dillehay drove in two more with a two-out single to left field to push it to 8-5.

Princeton rallied to score three runs on two hits and three walks in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and force extra innings.

Brown's offensive surge continued in the 10th to the tune four runs, starting with an infield single by Brasher, who stole second and scored on a double by Petersen, which proved to be the game-winning hit. Up next, Dillehay provided some insurance with a single to score Petersen, and three batters later, Christian Butera sent a double down the left field line to score two more runs.

Brown will return to action this Wednesday, April 23 with an in-state showdown at the University of Rhode Island. First pitch in Kingston is set for 3:30 p.m.
