Softball Hosts Bryant for Midweek Doubleheader on Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball returns home for a doubleheader against Bryant on Wednesday (April 16). The doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. at the Brown Softball Field.
Both games of the doubleheader will be streamed on ESPN+.

THE FIRST PITCH
• Brown returns home for a midweek doubleheader against Bryant as the two teams will meet on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.
• Brown went 2-1 last weekend in a three-game Ivy series at Columbia. The Bears won both games that Alexis Guevara started, taking the first and third game of the series. Guevara has now won four-straight starts and six of her last seven starts.
• The Bears have won seven of their last nine Ivy League games after being swept by Dartmouth to start the conference slate. Brown won all three games at Penn before returning home to win two of three games against Cornell and two of three at Columbia.
• Brown will be looking to break a three-game losing streak to Bryant. The Bears dropped both games of a road doubleheader last year and lost the second game of a doubleheader at home in 2023.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• Bryant is 13-23 on the season and 5-7 in America East play. The Bulldogs are coming off back-to-back wins over UMass Lowell that broke a nine-game losing streak.
• Meaghan Houk leads Bryant with a .358 batting average and is second on the team with 22 RBI
• Bryant is 60-for-75 in stolen base attempts with Hannah Cochran going 11-for-12 on the season to lead the squad.
SHUTTING THE BATS DOWN
• Brown threw back-to-back shutouts against Rhode Island and now has seven shutouts on the season.
• The seven shutouts are the most for a Brown pitching staff since the 1996 season when that staff finished the year with nine.
• Guevara was tagged for three earned runs against Columbia in her last outing, the most she had given up since allowing five against Dartmouth on March 22.
• Guevara had gone eight-straight outings that spanned 39.1 innings with only allowing two earned runs or less.
• The run in the bottom of the second against Columbia broke a scoreless stretch of 15.1 consecutive innings thrown by Guevara.
EARNING THE HONORS
• Brown has taken home six Ivy League weekly honors this season.
• Alexis Guevara has earned three Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors, being awarded the honors on March 10, 17 and April 7.
• Laurel Moody has won Player of the Week honors twice (March 10 & 31).
• Amanda Deng took home Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on March 31.
BRINGING THE BATS TO PHILLY
• In the final two games of the series against Penn, Brown's bats exploded as the Bears finished with 12 runs in each game.
• Brown also finished the two games with 16 and 14 hits, respectively.
• It was the first time this season that Brown has had double-digit hits and runs in back-to-back games.
• The last time Brown had back-to-back games with double-digit hits was on April 15 and 16, 2023, against Dartmouth when the Bears had 11 hits in two-straight games against the Big Green.
• This was the first time Brown has scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games since the 2000-01 season when the Bears scored 10 runs and 12 runs in a doubleheader against Cornell (Brown lost both of those games.).

• With two wins at Columbia, Brown reached the 20-win mark, now sitting at 21 wins on the season.
• The Bears 21 wins are the most since 1996 when Brown went 24-14.
• The program record for wins in a season is 33 back in 1991.
QUICK START
• Brown started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010 as the Bears earned a wins over Youngstown State and Winthrop.
• The Bears followed that up with a 7-3 start, the best 10-game start for the squad since the 2016 season.
• The win against Youngstown State was the first for Brown's head coach Mary Holt-Kelsch, who took over the program in August.

• Brown has scored in double-digits six times this season.

• Alexis Guevara has been charged with 18 losses where she has allowed two earned run or less.

• Alexis Guevara earned her 11th win of the season with a win over Columbia in the series finale. The win matched her win total from a season ago.
