Baseball to face Georgia Southern in Weekend Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team will make its final southern trip of the season this weekend to face off against Georgia Southern in a three-game series starting on Friday evening. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+.

SCHEDULE UPDATE: Due to expected inclement weather, both teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. There will be no games on Sunday. Friday's game will be played as scheduled.

Georgia Southern holds a 2-0 record all-time against Brown, with the Eagles taking both games by scores of 9-2 and 16-9 in March 2007.

Senior starter Santhosh Gottam has struck out 10 batters in 13.0 innings through two starts this season while issuing just four walks.
Sophomore catcher Brandon Chang hit his first two collegiate home runs last Saturday at Elon.
Junior infielder DJ Dillehay leads the team with a .292 batting average and six RBIs this season. He has hit safely in five of seven games.
Junior outfielder Mika Petersen carries a four-game hitting streak into the weekend while batting .261 with two steals.
Senior Nathan Brasher, who was the team's leading hitter last season, had a three-hit performance last Friday at Elon.
As a team, the Bears have committed 13 errors this season, which has led to 10 unearned runs.

SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN (7-6, 0-0 Sun Belt)

The Eagles have split a pair of midweek games this week, topping Charleston Southern 4-3 in 10 innings before falling 13-11 at Jacksonville on Wednesday.
The Eagles fell in the Sun Belt Championship game last season to Southern Miss, but retooled this offseason with 20 new players, including 13 transfers.
Senior outfielder Sean Smith has hit safely in 12 of 13 games this season and leads the team in homers (6), RBIs (13), walks (13) and steals (3) with a .457/.578/.913 slash line.
Fellow outfielder Josh Tate is batting .362 with a team-best six doubles and is tied with Smith for second on the team with 11 runs.
Friday's starter Kade Grundy has struck out 15 batters through 13.0 innings over three starts. Opponents are hitting .283 against him and he holds a 6.23 ERA.
Thomas Burke is expected to make his third start of the year on Sunday. He has thrown 6.2 innings over his first two starts with six strikeouts and seven walks. Opponents are hitting .130 against him.
