3/28/2025 9:00:00 AM | Men's Crew
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's crew team started their spring season with a dominant performance against Boston University on Mar. 22, winning every race on the day. Up next for the Bears is a race in much warmer waters as the team prepares to compete at the Sarasota Invitational in Florida from Mar. 28-29.Â
The schedule for the two race days is as follows:
Friday - Brown vs Northeastern vs Yale (4V at 3:50 p.m., 3V at 4:10 p.m., 2V at 5:40 p.m., and V8 at 6:30 p.m.)
Saturday - Brown vs Harvard vs Northeastern vs Yale vs Washington (4V at 10:40 a.m., 3V at 10:50 a.m., 2V at 11:50 a.m., and V8 at 12:10 p.m.)
The first race at Nathan Benderson Park Lake sees the Bears renew their rivalry with Ivy League foe Yale, as the programs compete for the Albert Cup. In the fifteen recorded meetings between the two teams since 2008, the Bears have posted a 5-10 record and have not won the Cup since 2013.Â
On Saturday's schedule, Brown takes on another longtime Ivy League rival in the Harvard Crimson. The two teams will battle for the Stein Cup, with Harvard having won the last four races. The Bears have an all-time record of 10-48 when competing for the Stein Cup, dating back to the first race in 1965, and last won the Cup in 2018.Â
All four of Brown's opponents at the invitational are ranked in the IRCA/IRA Men's Collegiate Rowing Preseason Poll, with the Washington Huskies entering the season as the nation's best program. The Bears, who rank ninth overall in the poll, are ready for the challenges that await them on Friday and Saturday.
"The team is excited to race in Florida this weekend," said senior captain Adam von Bismarck. "It's a great opportunity to test ourselves early in the season and Brown Crew is in a good place to perform well."
