Men's Crew Wins Albert Cup at Sarasota Invitational
3/28/2025 9:01:00 PM | Men's Crew
SARASOTA, Fl. - The men's crew team finished the first day of the Sarasota Invitational by defeating Yale and Northeastern in today's V8 race. By defeating Yale, the Bears won the Albert Cup for the first time since 2013. The victory moves Brown to 6-10 all-time when competing for the Cup.
"Every race today was hard fought and I really admire and respect the teams from Yale and Northeastern," said Men's Crew Head Coaching Chair Paul Cooke '89. "All four races demanded stamina, concentration and came down to the wire."
The Varsity 8, stroked by David Person and coxed by Elenna Seguin, was able to cross the finish line in 05:45.39. This marks the second consecutive first place finish for the V8 boat, following up their win last weekend at Boston University.
"The whole team contributed to winning the Albert Cup," said Cooke. I know how hard every athlete on our team has worked this winter and they all share in this accomplishment of securing the victory and taking the Cup for the first time in our team's history."
The Bears finished in second place in the the 2V8, 3V8, and 4V8 races, with their next fastest finish being the 2V8, with a final time of 05:52.25. The 2V8 is stroked by Isaac Hillicks-Tulip and coxed by Lizzie Mitchell.
The Bears will enter Saturday with their eyes on the Stein Cup, which will be up for grabs when they face the Harvard Crimson. Other opponents, such as Northeastern, Washington, and Yale, are also on the schedule for tomorrow.
The first race for tomorrow is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. and the entire event will be streamed on Red House TV (link can be found on the team schedule).
