
Gymnastics Scores 194.575 to Top RIC, SCSU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown gymnastics team turned in its second-highest score of the season on Sunday afternoon of 194.575 to top Rhode Island College and Southern Connecticut State at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Following last week's program record, the team's beam squad followed by posting the No. 2 all-time score on Sunday, sweeping the top six spots on the event.
Senior Julia Bedell won the individual crown on vault, sophomore Liza Marcus and freshman Avery Walters tied for first on bars, sophomore Lindsey Yang and junior Jessica Lin were co-champs on beam, and senior Maya Davis earned first place on floor.
Brown started off the meet with a 47.975 on vault, tying their second-highest score of the year on the event. Bedell led the way to earn the individual title with a 9.775, and Sophia Dewar scored 9.675 to tie for second place. Umi El Mammann followed with a 9.600 for a new season-high and placed in a tie for fifth.
Brown took over first place in the second rotation with a season-high 48.750 on bars to sweep the top six places on the event. Career-highs from Marcus and Walters of 9.825 led the way in a tie for first place. Davis followed with a 9.775 to take third place, Daisy Fallon scored a 9.700 for fourth place, Emily Ford followed with 9.625 to place fifth and Dewar finished in a tie for sixth at 9.550. Overall, Brown held a 96.725 mark through two rotations.
The Bears kept the momentum rolling on beam, turning in a sensational score of 48.950, tying for second all-time in program history behind only last week's school record score of 49.175. Brown swept the top four spots with Yang and Lin tying for first place at 9.850, Lindsay Van Eyk finished third at 9.825, and Ford tied for fourth at 9.750. Walters took eighth place with her score of 9.675.
Rounding out the meet on floor, Davis dazzled with a near flawless routine to take first place at 9.875. Walters took runner-up at 9.825, followed by Yang in a tie for third place at 9.800. Marcus earned a score of 9.725 to finish in a tie for sixth place as the team earned a score of 48.900.
Brown will host its final home meet of the season next Sunday, March 9, when it welcomes Bridgeport to the Pizzitola Sports Center at 2 p.m. for a dual meet on Senior Day and Alumnae Day.
