ELON, N.C. – The Brown baseball team dropped the final game of their three-game weekend series at Elon on Sunday afternoon by a score of 5-0.
Three Elon pitchers combined to silence the Bears' bats in the three-hit shutout. Brown starter Luke Trout allowed just one hit and two unearned runs over 4.0 innings of work with a pair of strikeouts as three Brown pitchers held Elon to just five hits. At the plate, Miles Newsome and Mika Petersen tallied one hit apiece, and catcher Andrew Hanlon reached base twice with a hit and a walk.
After putting runners aboard in the first and third innings, Brown had 17 men in a row retired before an eighth inning walk by Hanlon.
Two of Elon's runs were unearned, both of which came in the second and third innings. The score remained 2-0 into the sixth inning when a two-out walk and a home run grew the Phoenix lead to 4-0. They added an insurance run in the eighth inning on two singles sandwiched around a sacrifice bunt.
Brown will face off against Georgia Southern in a three-game series next weekend, starting on Friday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
