Chang Homers Twice as Baseball Falls at Elon

ELON, N.C. – Brown sophomore catcher Brandon Chang homered twice on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Bears fell 8-4 at Elon in game two of their three-game weekend series.

Chang's first two career homers were part of a 2-for-4 day where he drove in all four of Brown's runs. Freshman Alex Benevento went 2-for-4 in his first career start in left field and five other players all added one hit apiece.

Elon jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings of play. In the first inning Elon scored on a two-run double with two outs. They used a leadoff triple, an RBI single, and later a two-run double to push across three runs in the second inning, then used a double, steal and sac fly in the third for another run.

The Bears were able to get on the board with two runs in the fourth as Edmunds doubled down the left field line with two outs, setting the table for Chang who clubbed his first career home run to left field to get Brown within four.

Elon used three singles to plate another two-out run in the fifth and push the lead back to five, 7-2.

Brown came right back with two runs in the sixth, courtesy of Chang. The catcher once again delivered by crushing his second home run of the game by jumping on a fastball on the very first pitch from a new left-handed reliever to pull the Bears within 7-4.

However, that was as close as the Bears would get, stranding four runners on base over the final three innings. Elon tacked on an insurance run courtesy of four walks in the eighth inning to push the lead to the 8-4 final.

The Bears and the Phoenix will close out their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch of the series finale is set for 1 p.m.
