Brian Nicholas Named ECAC Rookie of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – Freshman forward Brian Nicholas has been named ECAC Bitcoin Rookie of the Week following his hat trick and four-point effort against Rensselaer on Friday (Feb. 1). It marks the first weekly award for Nicholas.
Nicholas recorded his first career hat trick, capped off by the overtime game winner, in Brown's 6-5 win over Rensselaer on Friday at Houston Field House.
The Scarsdale, New York native tallied a goal in the first period and a goal and assist in the second period before scoring the winner in the extra period.
On the season, Nicholas leads the Bears with 21 points and ranks second on the team in both goals (10) and assists (11).
In the Brown record books, Nicholas is tied for eighth in goals by a freshman and tied for tenth in points by a freshman.
In the rankings, Nicholas leads the ECAC and ranks fifth in the NCAA among freshmen with 1.00 points per game. Overall, he is tied for first in the ECAC and 38th nationally with the point per game pace.
His 0.48 goals per game ranks seventh in the ECAC and 36th in the country. Among freshmen, he ranks second in the conference and fourth in the nation.
His four power play goals are tied for fifth-most in the ECAC and 37th-most in the NCAA.
Nicholas is the sixth Bear to pick up a weekly award this season, joining Ryan St. Louis (Forward – 1/27), Max Scott (Forward – 1/20), Lawton Zacher (Goalie – 11/25, 12/30), Alex Pineau (Defender – 12/2), and Charlie Gollob (Rookie – 11/25).
The Bears renew the rivalry against the Yale Bulldogs (5-14-2, 4-8-2 ECAC) next weekend, beginning with a road game at Ingalls Rink on Thursday (Feb. 6) before a home game at Meehan Auditorium on Sunday (Feb. 9).
