School Record on Beam Powers Gymnastics to Second Place at Ivy Classic

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Brown gymnastics team set a school record on beam and turned in its best performance of the season on Sunday afternoon to finish in second place overall at the 2025 Ivy Classic. The annual showdown between the four Ivy League schools that sponsor gymnastics, Brown took home second place with a score of 194.800, the sixth-highest overall score in program history. The Bears set new season-highs on all four events, including a program record of 49.175 on beam.
Senior Maya Davis captured the Ivy Classic title on floor, and sophomore Emily Ford won the individual title on beam. Ford's beam score also ties her own mark for No. 2 all-time in program history.
Brown had six gymnasts combine to earn eight All-Ivy Classic honors, which is presented to those who finish in the top six (including ties) in their respective events. Freshman Avery Walters earned three-All-Ivy honors, one on each of her events.

Brown started off with a very strong set of performances on floor with the Bears holding the lead through one rotation after posting a season-high 49.100 on floor, tied for the eighth-best floor score on program history. Davis captured the individual league title by tying her career-high at 9.900, the third time in her career she achieved that mark. Liza Marcus and Walters each followed with new career-highs of 9.850 to tie for fourth place overall, and Julia Bedell followed at 9.775. Sophia Dewar followed with a 9.725 and Daisy Fallon added a 9.625.
The Bears followed that up with another season-high in their second rotation, scoring 48.025 on vault, and putting them in second place at 97.125 through two rotations. Dewar led the Bears in a tie for sixth place overall with a 9.700, followed by a career-high of 9.675 from Gabby Mautner to tie for ninth. Bedell scored 9.650 to place 11th overall.
On bars, Walters led the way for Brown with a new career-high of 9.750 to tie for fourth place overall. Dewar started off the event with a new career-high of 9.725 to tie for seventh, while Marcus and Davis followed in a tie for 10th at 9.700. Brown scored 48.500 for another season-high, putting them in third place through three rotations just behind Yale at 145.625.
Closing the meet strong with the best performance in program history on beam, Brown overtook Yale to move back into second place with a new record of 49.175 on beam, surpassing the previous benchmark of 48.950 from March 17, 2024. Ford tied her career-high and her own No. 2 score in program history with an individual title winning performance of 9.900. Walters tied for second at 9.875, a new career-high. Lindsay Van Eyk set a new career-high in a tie for sixth place at 9.825, Jessica Lin tied for eighth at 9.800 and Liza Marcus tied for 10th at 9.775.
Brown will return to action next Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. to host Southern Connecticut State and Rhode Island College in a tri-meet at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Tickets are available at BrownBears.com/tickets.
