ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brown softball (2-2) dropped both games on Saturday at the Garnet and Gold Tournament against Le Moyne and St. John's. The Bears offense went cold, collecting only three runs on the day.
LE MOYNE 6, BROWN 3
Amanda Deng led Brown with two hits and Lily Berlinger hit her first home run of the season but Brown fell to Le Moyne 6-3 to start the day.
Le Moyne got on the board first in the top of the second with a two-run home run off starter Edie Cobb (0-1).
In the bottom of the second, Deng hit a two-out triple down the right field line but was thrown out at home to end the inning.
The Dolphins doubled their lead with a two-run home run two batters into the fifth off Annie Finch.
The Bears finally struck in the fifth with Cameron Zytkewicz Ray getting hit by a pitch and Leah Carey singling with two outs to keep the inning going. Berlinger stepped to the plate and drove one over the center field wall to make it 4-3.
Brown got a runner to second in the sixth but couldn't get another run across the board as Le Moyne scored two more in the seventh to pad its lead.
Macy Borowski, who threw the final three innings, finished the game with six strikeouts.
ST. JOHN'S 3, BROWN 0
The Bears offense was shut down against St. John's as Brown did not collect its first hit until the seventh inning.
London Jarrard did all the damage for St. John's, finishing the day 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and an RBI single for the three runs of the day.
Alexis Guevara (1-1) threw the complete game allowing the three runs on six hits. Guevara walked just one batter and struck out 10. It is the second-straight 10-strikeout game for Guevara, who has four total double-digit strikeout games in her career.
After two runs in the third and one in the fifth, Brown entered the seventh down to its last at bat looking for its first hit. Guevara took a 2-2 pitch to shortstop for a single and Jaime Ketter singled to center to bring the tying run to the plate but a strikeout ended the game.
