2/13/2025 10:13:00 AM | Wrestling
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bears return home to the Pizzatola Center for Senior Day and Alumni Day as they host conference rival Columbia on Sunday afternoon.
The Seniors who will be honored are James Araneo, Harrison Trahan, Sam McMonagle, Keegan Rothrock, Hunter Adrian, and Blake Saito.
Brown looks to right the ship after dropping two dual contests last weekend to American (25-13) and George Mason (24-18). Both programs come into Sunday's matchup with 0-3 conference records, providing each team with a golden opportunity to secure its first Ivy League victory of the season.
The probable lineup for Brown is as follows (all rankings from NCAA DI Coaches Rankings):
125 - Jared Brunner
133 - Jacob Joyce or Hunter Adrian or Michael Joyce
141 - Ian Oswalt or Joey Iamunno
149 - Austin McBurney or Joey Iamunno or Ethan Mojena
157 - #31 Blake Saito or Ethan Mojena
165 - Keegan Rothrock or Harrison Trahan
174 - Drew Clearie
184 - #27 Andrew Reall
197 - Thomas Sandoval
285 - Alex Semenenko
As we enter the final stretch of the regular season in February, Blake Saito (157) is looking to continue his strong season and qualify for the NCAA Championshhips in March. Saito, who is 9-3 on the season and 4-3 in dual competition, didn't compete against American and George Mason last weekend due to a lower body injury that he suffered against Penn on February 2.
Alex Semenenko (285) continues to dominate the competition with 10 pinfalls on the season. That is good enough to give him sole possession of fifth place in NCAA DI. At 16-11 overall and 4-5 in dual competition, Semenenko looks to get back to .500 in dual matches with a win on Sunday.
Jacob Joyce (133), who has the best overall record on the team this year at 12-3, could return to competition after missing matches against American and George Mason due to a head injury he suffered a few weeks ago while preparing for Princeton and Penn.
Andrew Reall (184), Thomas Sandoval (197), Drew Clearie (174), and Hunter Adrian (133) were all 1-1 last weekend against American/George Mason and look to build off their victories against Columbia.
OPPONENT PREVIEW
The Columbia Lions come to Providence this weekend with a 3-7 overall record and having dropped its last four competitions. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of #9 ranked Cornell by a final score of 40-0 on February 2.
The probable lineup for Columbia is as follows (all rankings from NCAA DI Coaches Rankings):
125 - Sulayman Bah
133 - Connor Smith
141 - Lorenzo Frezza or Cooper Hornack
149 - Kai Owen or Yanni Vines
157 - Richard Fedalen or Rawson Iwanicki
165 - #27 Cesar Alvan
174 - Jack McGill
184 - #30 Nick Fine or Spencer Fine
197 - Joe Curtis
285 - Billy McChesney or Richard Ryu
Both Nick Fine (184) and Cesar Alvan (165) are NCAA Championship hopefuls and provide tough competition for Brown. One of the biggest matchups of the day would be a potential Nick Fine vs Andrew Reall bout in the 184 weight class. Reall has been an impressive Freshman this season, showcasing incredible skill against other nationally ranked opponents from earlier in the season.
