Women's Basketball Falls to Princeton on Saturday
2/1/2025 8:30:00 PM | Women's Basketball
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Brown women's basketball team (10-10, 4-3 Ivy) fell to the Princeton Tigers (15-5, 6-1 Ivy) 60-47 at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday night.
"I thought the team battled really hard today and played to win with a lot of confidence. I think we can point to a couple of stretches at different points in the game where we allowed Princeton to go on a run, and then had to spend a lot of energy and fight really hard to get back in front in those situation, and I think the positive thing is that we did do that a couple of times," Elizabeth F. Turner '98 Coaching Chair for Women's Basketball Monique LeBlanc said. "I think that overall it was a really positive weekend, and I think from the game today we have a lot to build off."
Junior guard Grace Arnolie became the 25th player in program history to join the 1,000 point club. Arnolie hit a pair of free throws ahead of halftime to reach this milestone. She joins senior guard Isabella Mauricio, who also joined the 1,000 point club after Brown's win over Cornell on Jan. 20.
"It feels great, you know, always a big milestone. I'm super proud of Bella who also just achieved it, so it was awesome to be able to do that right after her with the support of teammates and coaches. Having my family here tonight was awesome," said Arnolie when asked about hitting 1,000 points.
The competition was tight right from the tip-off. The Bears combined for 15 points in the first quarter, trailing just five points behind the Tigers. Arnolie, junior forwards Alyssa Moreland, Beth Nelson, and first-year Gia Powell contributed to Brown's total.
A 5-0 run at the start of the quarter helped the Bears get ahead early. The Bears went on to net 13 points ahead of the break, holding the Tigers to just six points. Brown led 28-26 at halftime.
Both teams came out of the break ready to compete, with another close quarter. After 30 minutes of play, the score was knotted up at 43.
It all came down to the final quarter. The Tigers held off Brown from scoring for the majority of the quarter. Moreland and Arnolie both made driving layups, which would be the only scoring plays for Brown in the final 10. The Tigers netted 17 points in the fourth quarter, giving them the advantage over the Bears.
