Women’s Basketball Drops Conference Contest to Columbia
2/8/2025 5:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Brown women's basketball team (10-11, 4-4 Ivy) fell to the Columbia Lions (17-4, 8-0 Ivy) 78-40 on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"Games like this are tough. They're tough when we have a start like that, but at the same time I think they're character building. I know for our team we identify as not making excuses, thinking about the next play, and being tough. In games like this I think we quickly try to turn our focus to sticking to our core values," Elizabeth F. Turner '98 Coaching Chair for Women's Basketball Monique LeBlanc said.
Senior guard Isabella Mauricio led the team in scoring, netting 15 out of the Bears' 40 points, and hitting six from the field. Mauricio also posted a steal and two blocks.
"Bella is a player that we know can be a steadying factor. She can get her shot off quickly, and has a ton of experience. We count on her in a game like that, where everybody seems a little bit flustered, that she can be somebody that is calm and can handle pressure. I think she did a really great job with that this afternoon," LeBlanc commented when asked about Mauricio performing under pressure.
The Bears currently sit at the middle of the Ivy League standings in fourth place. Brown has six games remaining in the regular season, with just one at home.
"We were talking in the locker room about how on the road it's always tough, because the only people cheering for us are ourselves. So, really honing in on that, having a great week at practice, and turning the page on this one quickly because it's obviously not the result that we wanted," said Mauricio regarding Brown's back-to-back contests on the road next weekend.
