Women's Hockey's Comeback Bid Falls Short in 3-2 Loss to Maine
12/30/2025 7:39:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
PORTLAND, Maine – Brown women's hockey (9-7-1) staged a late comeback but could not overcome a three-goal deficit, falling to Maine (7-11-2), 3-2 on Tuesday (Dec. 30) in Portland.
Both India McDadi and Jade Iginla found the net for the Bears. Anya Zupkofska led Brown with 17 saves, playing the final two periods of the game.
Ava DeCoste and Victoria Damiani each finished the night with two assists.
Maine struck first, capitalizing on a Brown turnover in its own zone. Isabelle Michaud beat Edwards with a backhand at 8:55 to put Maine up 1-0. The Black Bears doubled their lead just two minutes later with a goal by Sade Sandilands.
In a second period that was filled with penalties, Maine took advantage of two Brown fouls scoring a 4-on-3 power play goal 2:21 into the period. Brown was given chances in the second as Maine was whistled for three penalties through the first half of the period, but the Bears could not find the net.
Brown was finally able to take advantage of penalties on Maine in the third period. With the Bears up a player, India McDadi won the puck on the side board out to Ava DeCoste. DeCoste found Victoria Damiani, who went back to McDadi. McDadi beat Maine's goalie over the shoulder to score the Bears first goal.
Just over two minutes later, Brown was on the power play again. Damiani had the puck on the point and sent it down to DeCoste in the near circle. DeCoste found Iginla coming down the slot and the senior made a fantastic move, flipping the puck past Madisyn Ryan to make it a one-goal game.
The Bears pulled Zupkofska and had chances to tie the game in the final minutes, none better than a chance from McDadi, who pulled the trigger coming down the slot, beat Maine's goaltender, but caught the inside of the pipe.
GAME NOTES
Brown will return to ECAC play with home games this weekend against RPI (Jan. 2) and Union (Jan. 3).
