ITHACA, N.Y. - Competing at the Big Red Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 23, Brown wrestling featured three wrestlers win their respective weight brackets in Group A. Max Norman (165), Andrew Reall (197), and Alex Semenenko (285) all continued their red-hot starts to the season by combining for an 11-0 record on the day. All three wrestlers were coming off weight bracket victories at the Army Invitational (Nov. 16) last Sunday.Â
"We are pleased with the way our guys are competing across the board," Marvin Wilenzik '56, Head Coaching Chair for Brown Wrestling Jordan Leen said. "All 15 guys who competed today came away with at least one win, and a few have quietly put together some pretty strong resumes so far this season. Max Norman is now 10-2 with three nationally ranked wins, Andrew Reall is 12-1, and Alex Semenenko is 8-0." Â
Semenenko recorded two pinfall victories against Charlie Tibbitts (Binghamton) and Gavin Hannah (Bloomsburg), moving his total to five pinfalls on the season. Brown's top heavyweight continues to barrel towards the single-season school record for pinfalls (14) after nearly tying the record last season.Â
Reall, the 31st overall-ranked wrestler by FloWrestling for his weight class, recorded two tech falls en route to his 4-0 record today. Andrew moves to an impressive 12-1 record on the season, following up his promising freshman campaign last year, where he flashed tremendous potential in several highly competitive matches against ranked opponents.Â
Norman has been nothing short of sensational for the Bears this year, going 3-0 this afternoon in Ithaca. Norman, who is ranked 28th in the country for his weight class by FloWrestling, recorded two pinfall victories against Bloomsburg's Logan Baker and Clarion's Sawyer Ayotte. Max also defeated Louie Cerchio (Cornell), ranked 26th in the nation in his weight class, by decision, 7-4.
In addition to the several bracket winners, the Bears had six wrestlers finish as runners-up: Eli Carr (149) in Group A, Ethan Mojena (157) in Group A, Alex Hamrick (197) in Group B, Dominic Frontino (157) in Group B, Nico Romero (165) in Group C, and Kai Tengco (149) in Group D. Ten of Bruno's fifteen wrestlers to compete today recorded first or second place finishes in their brackets/groups.Â
