No. 12 Women's Hockey Earns Road Win at St. Lawrence
11/22/2025 6:14:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
CANTON, N.Y. – No. 12 Brown women's hockey (8-3-1, 4-3-1 ECAC) earned a big road win at St. Lawrence (5-10-2, 4-4-0 ECAC) with a 2-1 victory at Appleton Arena on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 22).
The Bears picked up goals from Jade Iginla (1) and Monique Lyons (8) in the victory. Anya Zupkofska earned her fifth win of the season with 32 saves on the night.
Avery Lian had Brown's lone assist on the afternoon on the Lyons goal.
Late in the first period, Zupkofska made the first big save of the evening, shutting down a breakaway with a right leg save on a backhand as the first period ended scoreless.
The Bears put the first goal on the board six minutes into the second period as Iginla netted her first goal of the season. The senior picked up the puck from behind St. Lawrence's net, reversed sides and after her first shot was blocked by a defender, stuffed her next one past the Saints goalie.
Two minutes later, with the puck in the Bears' end, Lian retrieved the puck by the corner and sent it to the point. The puck was knocked down by a Saints defender but right to Lyons who took off on a breakaway. Lyons entered the zone and kept the puck away from the St. Lawrence defender long enough to send a backhand over the shoulder of the goalie for Brown's second goal.
St. Lawrence would cut into the Brown lead 20 seconds later as a pass in front led to a wide-open net and cut Brown's lead to 2-1.
There was drama in the third over the last couple of minutes after St. Lawrence had pulled its goalie, but Zupkofska and the Bears defense was up to the task, keeping the Saints off the board to preserve the win.
GAME NOTES
The Bears will return home for two games on Thanksgiving weekend. Brown will host Providence on Saturday (Nov. 29) at 1 p.m. and New Hampshire on Sunday (Nov. 30) at 4 p.m.
