Men's Hockey Renews Rivalry with Yale in Weekend Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (2-5-0, 1-3-0 ECAC) renew its rivalry with the Yale Bulldogs (2-3-0, 2-2-0 ECAC) in a home-and-home series this weekend, kicking off Friday night at Meehan Auditorium before closing on Saturday in New Haven.
Both games this weekend are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend after most recently skating to a 5-2 win on Wednesday over Alaska Anchorage at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears are 2-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the ECAC.
- Brown's offense averages 2.0 goals per game with Charlie Gollob leading skaters with three goals. Gollob, Brian Nicholas, and Ivan Zadvernyuk lead the Bears with five points apiece.
- Brown's power play clicks at 10.5% with Ben Poitras and Michael Salandra tallying power play goals this season.
- Defensively, Brown allows 3.0 goals per game to rank seventh in the ECAC and 33rd nationally.
- Between the pipes, Tyler Shea holds a .919 save percentage and a 2.40 goals against average in six games.
- The Bruno penalty kill clicks at 71.4% (15-21) to rank ninth in the conference.
- Yale enters the weekend with a 2-3-0 overall record and 2-2-0 ECAC mark. The Bulldogs opened the season with a non-conference loss at Dartmouth before taking home wins over Quinnipiac and Princeton.
- Yale most recently fell in overtime at Colgate before suffering a 5-2 loss at Cornell.
- Yale's offense averages 2.4 goals per game to rank ninth in the ECAC. Ronan O'Donnell leads the squad with four goals and five points. Iisai Pesonen leads the Bulldogs with three assists.
- Yale's power play clicks at 12.5% (2-16) to rank tenth in the ECAC.
- Defensively, Yale allows 3.6 goals per game to rank 11th in the conference.
- Between the pipes, Noah Pak holds a .934 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average in three starts.
- Yale's penalty kill ranks seventh in the ECAC at 78.9% (15-19).
- The Bulldogs rank last in the NCAA with a 40.7% win-rate at the faceoff dot.
- This weekend marks the 198th and 199th meetings between Brown and Yale in a series dating back to 1898.
- Yale holds the series edge, 107-82-8, along with a 66-35-4 record in New Haven. The Bears own a 45-40-3 home record.
- The series has been extremely close in recent years with both teams winning five of the last 10 meetings.
- Brown swept the season series in 2024-25, taking a 2-1 road win and a 5-1 home win on Super Bowl Sunday.
- Brown got back in the win column with a 5-2 non-conference win over Alaska Anchorage Wednesday night at Meehan Auditorium.
- Fred Halyk was stellar in net with 35 saves and chipped in an assist offensively.
- Sophomores led the offensive game with Charlie Gollob scoring twice and adding an assist. Ivan Zadvernyuk chipped in two assists and Ben Poitras added a goal and an assist.
- From the blue line, freshmen Ashton Bynum and Matt Desiderio both recorded their first career goals.
- Assistant Coach and Director of Operations Evan Moorhouse was added to the staff for the United States Collegiate Selects squad for the upcoming Spengler Cup.
- Moorhouse will serve as video coach in addition to hockey operations duties in Davos, Switzerland in late December.
- He joins a staff that is led by Penn State head coach Guy Gadowsky. Former Brown assist and current New Hampshire head coach Mike Souza and Niagara head coach Jason Lammers will serve as the assistant coaches.
- It marks the first time collegiate players will represent the United States at the historic Spengler Cup, the 97th iteration of the international tournament.
- The United States opens the tournament against Team Canada on December 26.
- Fred Halyk picked up his first win in a Brown uniform with a 35-save effort against the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Wednesday.
- The 35 saves marked a career best for the junior. His previous high was 30 saves while at Denver.
- Halyk also added his first assist in a Brown uniform and second in his collegiate career.
- Charlie Gollob matched a career-high with his three-point effort against the Seawolves (Nov. 19). Gollob tallied an assist in the first period, a goal in the second period, and an empty-net goal in the third period.
- The Toronto, Ontario native leads the team with three goals this season and is tied with Brian Nicholas and Ivan Zadvernyuk for the team lead in points with five.
- Gollob also leads the Bears with 19 shots on goal.
