NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. --- Brown Men's Water Polo fought hard in all three games this weekend despite the unfortunate 1-2 outcome overall.
The men started their weekend in Brooklyn, N.Y., facing LIU, where the team won 18-9 for their first of three games over the weekend. Griffin Tunney started the day off strong, getting the first goal of the game from a penalty just two minutes into the game. With Kole Newmen in goal protecting the net from the Sharks, the Bears were able to start the game off strong with six goals in the first period, following the first goal from Tunney. Filip Josipovic, William Vranesh and Dominik Balla all scored three goals for the Bears to keep the momentum going, allowing them to secure the 18-9 win.
Game two of the day was played in Princeton, N.J, against No. 9 Princeton. The Bears fought hard with Dominik Balla once again scoring three goals for the Bears in an attempt to even the score against the Tigers. Dimitrios Kratimenos was a strong wall in the net, making eight saves overall, allowing the Bears to finish the day with 12 goals, though they fell short to the Tigers 17 goals.
The last game of the weekend was back in New Rochelle, New York against the Iona Gaels. Ilias Stothart, Griffin Tunney, and Mac Berry all made a valiant effort all scoring two goals for the Bears, allowing them to start off strong with four goals in the first quarter. Kole Newman, Ryan Miele, and Dimitrios Kratimenos were all strong goaltenders during the game, saving 12 goals between them, keeping the score (11-13) close until the very end.
Though the Bears were unable to continue their win streak the rest of the weekend, they intend to come back stronger back at their home pool in Providence this Saturday, Oct. 11. against MIT.
