Field Hockey Defeats Maine 1-0 for Fifth Straight Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team (6-3, 2-1) defeated Maine (3-8, 0-1), 1-0, on for its fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.
Brown out shot Maine 5-3 in the opening quarter, they also generated three penalty corner chances while holding Maine to one. Brown goalkeeper Ellie Parker stopped two shots in the first quarter as the game entered the second stanza knotted at zero.
Brown opened the second quarter on the offensive, generating two penalty corner chances and three shots on target through the first 4:14. The Bears were able to find the back of the net when Zita Cohen stepped up for a penalty stroke and fired the ball into the cage. It was Cohen's first career goal as Brown took a 1-0 lead 6:52 into the second. The Bears kept their foot on the gas in the second, firing two more shots in the frame but couldn't find the back of the net as they took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Brown out shot Maine 7-0 in the second, 12-3 overall in the first half. They also held Maine without a penalty corner opportunity in the second as Brown had two. Maine goalkeeper Rozarie Mrazova made five saves in the second quarter to keep Brown's advantage to just 1-0.
The Bears held Maine without a shot or a penalty corner chance in the third quarter as they out shot Maine 4-0.
With 11:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, Maine generated its first shot of the game since the 9:18 mark of the first quarter as Parker turned aside the Black Bears' bid to tie the game at one.
Parker went on to make one more fourth quarter save, preserving the 1-0 victory for Brown as she earned her third career shutout. Overall, Brown went on to out shoot Maine 21-5 (12-4 on target), the Bears generated 10 penalty corner chances while limiting the Black Bears to three.
Brown's five-game winning streak is the first of its kind since they opened Britt Broady's tenure with five-straight wins to open the 2022 season. The Bears have allowed just two goals during the winning streak and have had three shutouts in the process.
The Bears will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Penn on Friday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. before heading to Boston University on Monday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
