PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Brown field hockey team (7-3, 3-1 Ivy) earned its sixth consecutive win with a 4-1 victory at Penn (4-5, 1-3 Ivy) on Friday afternoon.
The win for Brown pushed its win streak to six games, matching the most since 1992, the Bears have won three-straight Ivy League games for the first time since the 2006 season.
"I'm really excited by how we're playing and competing at this point of the season," head coach Britt Broady said. "Our focus has been on taking each game as it comes, so any winning streak is a result of that mindset rather than our main goal."
The Quakers opened the scoring 9:25 into the contest on a goal from Philine Klas. Following the Penn goal, the Bears were able to tie the game at one with 29 seconds remaining in the first on a goal from Sophia Clark. It was Clark's second goal of the season as her goal was unassisted. Overall. Brown outshot Penn 7-5 in the opening 15 minutes, Penn forced four penalty corner opportunities while Brown had two.
Brown took a 2-1 lead 2:51 into the second quarter as Lucy Adams fired the ball towards the circle, the ball deflected off of a Penn defender into the air as Sadie Schultz was able to knock it down and find the back of the net. Schultz's fourth goal of the season began a big second quarter for the Bears. It took Brown 62 seconds to double its lead to 3-1 after Clark added her second goal of the game. Brown had three shots in the second, all three were on target as two found the back of the net.
The Bears outshot the Quakers 10-6 in the first half as they took a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Lucy Adams extended Brown's lead to 4-1 11:28 into the third quarter, the Andover, Mass. native's individual effort dancing around multiple defenders ended with the ball in the back of the net. The Bears generated five penalty corner chances in the third, they had a game-high seven shots in the frame.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Bears held Penn to just one total shot, the Quakers generated just four shots over the last three quarters.
Overall, Brown fired 20 shots (10 on goal), while holding Penn to nine (two on goal), it was the sixth time this season Brown has had 20 or more shots.
The Bears have outscored their opponents 24-3 during their winning streak.
"The Penn program is very well-coached, with some very strong offensive threats," Broady added. "This is a significant, high-quality win and now I'm looking forward to fully focusing on our next challenge."
Brown will return to action on Monday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Boston University at 1 p.m.
