10/25/2025 6:45:00 PM | Men's Soccer
"Really tough one tonight, but I'm really proud of our guys and team," Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair Chase Wileman said. "We faced a lot of adversity this week in terms of preparation, injuries, guys in and guys out. I thought our performance was fantastic."
The Bears struck first, getting on the board just three minutes into the match. First-year forward Mateo Pereyra was able to capitalize on a long-throw, getting his foot on the ball after a few bounces to send it past Cornell's Ryan Friedberg.
Competition remained tight throughout the first half, with the Big Red having a slight edge with nine shots to Brown's eight. Cornell rounded out the first half with four corner kick opportunities to Brown's one, but the Bears were able to hold them off heading into the break.
The Big Red were able to find the equalizer in the 80th minute with a goal from Sam Latona, knotting the score at one. Cornell went on to earn the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute, holding on to their 2-1 advantage for the remaining two minutes.
Brown's defense and goalkeeping played a key role in minimizing Cornell's chances, and keeping the Bears in the match. Junior defender Iyke Dafe came up big on multiple occasions, blocking shots in front of the net. Senior goalkeeper Henrik Weiper faced 24 shots, making eight saves for the Bears.
