PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's soccer team (5-3-2, 1-1-1 Ivy) competed in their third conference contest on Saturday afternoon, playing to a tight draw against Penn (5-2-4, 1-0-2 Ivy).
I think it was a good college soccer game, two teams that are good and have a lot to play for, Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair Chase Wileman said. I think we canceled each other out a little bit, but I am proud of the guys for fighting and not giving in. We just have to keep working, and improve for Tuesday.
The Bears' strong defense and goalkeeping kept competition tight throughout the full 90 minutes. With five key saves, sophomore goalkeeper Max Pfaffman kept a clean sheet for Brown. Saturday's draw marks Pfaffman's second career shutout.
Both the Bears and Quakers had scoring opportunities that they were unable to capitalize on in the first half. Brown had three corner kicks at the start of the first half, but were unable to generate anything besides a shot. The Quakers made three shots in the first half, which were blocked by Brown's defense and saved by Pfaffman. The Bears tallied five shots in the first 45, to the Quakers' six.
Tight competition continued into the second half, but both teams were unable to find the back of the net.
Brown closed out the competition with seven shots, with four landing on target. Iyke Dafe, Lorenzo Amaral, and Jamin Gogo Peters all recorded shots on goal.
