
Last-Minute Goal Dooms Women's Hockey in Loss to Bemidji State

MINNEAPOLIS – Brown women's hockey (8-9-1) gave up a last-minute goal to Bemidji State (4-16-1) to fall to the Beavers 5-4, closing out play in the East/West Showcase at the University of Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.
Jess Ciarrocchi got the scoring started for Brown just over three minutes into the first period. Ciarrocchi's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Jade Iginla and Victoria Damiani.
With the score tied 1-1 after the first period, Brown started the second period with a bang. On the power play, Sam Broz found a wide open net for a goal 1:15 into the period. Broz was assisted by Monique Lyons and Ava DeCoste.
Four minutes later, Brown doubled its lead with Margot Norehad scoring on a breakaway after assists from Ciarrocchi and Abby Hancock. The lead jumped to three after Iginla scored 12 seconds later from Gali Levy and Cameron Sikich.
Bemidji State cut into Brown's lead with two power play goals four minutes apart later in the second period and Brown led by just one heading into the final period of play.
The Beavers tied the game five minutes into the third and Brown had a couple of chances to take the lead back in the third but could not get past Lauren Mooney. With less than a minute left Bemidji State beat Anya Zupkofska for the game-winning goal.
Brown was outshot 34-20 and the Bears went 1-for-3 on the power play. Bemidji State finished the game 2-for-4 with the advantage.
Zupkofska finished the game with 29 saves.

Brown will play its final non-conference game of the season when the Bears host Sacred Heart on Wednesday (Jan. 8). Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
