Kino Lilly Jr. Scores Career-High 34 Points as Men’s Basketball Defeats Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Kino Lilly Jr. scored a career-high 34 points as the Brown men's basketball team (10-8, 2-3) earned an 88-79 win at Penn (6-12, 2-3) on Friday evening.
"We're thrilled to get a win in a very tough place to play against a good team and an extremely well coached team that was playing their best basketball over the last two games before today " Head Men's Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04 said. "I'm really pleased with our players and their ability to respond after that early second half run by Penn. For us to do it on the road against a team that's playing really well,we're thrilled."
Lilly Jr. hit his first five three-pointers to open the game, he finished the opening 20 minutes with 23 points on 7-8 shooting from three-point range. As a team, Brown opened the game 8-10 from distance, they finished the first half shooting 10-17 from deep.
Overall, Brown shot 17-34 in the first half as Alexander Lesburt Jr. also hit two three-pointers, the Bears led by as much as 17 in the first half.
Brown took a 48-38 lead into the second half.
Penn opened the second half on a 12-0 run to take a 50-48 lead with 16:25 remaining in the second half. The final 20 minutes featured five lead changes and Penn led by as much as four with 14:12 remaining in regulation.
Trailing 72-71 with 4:28 remaining, Aaron Cooley made a layup to give Brown a 73-72 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.
Lilly Jr. hit a three-pointer with 3:19 remaining to give Brown a 78-72 lead, after Penn responded with a layup, Lesburt Jr. nailed his fifth and final three-pointer to push Brown's lead to seven with 1:27 remaining.
Brown held on for the final 87 seconds to earn its second Ivy League victory of the season.
Lilly Jr.'s eight three-pointers were a career-high, he became the first Bear to score 30 or more points on the road since Brandon Anderson scored 31 at Penn (Feb. 14, 2020).
Lesburt Jr. finished with 19 points, it was the second consecutive game he hit five three-pointers. Lyndel Erold scored seven points to go along with 11 rebounds, eight of which were defensive.
Brown will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 when they travel to Princeton, tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Jadwin Gymnasium.
