Men's Hockey Heads to Empire State to Take on RPI, Union

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears close out the month of January and jump into the final 10 games of the regular season with a road trip to take on the Rensselaer Engineers and Union Garnet Chargers on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Both games this weekend will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally. Friday's game against Rensselaer is scheduled for 7 p.m. with puck drop against the Garnet Chargers set for 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- The Bears enter the weekend on a four-game win streak with an overall record of 8-9-2 and an ECAC record of 4-7-1.
- Brown's offense averages 2.4 goals per game to rank ninth in the conference. Captain Max Scott leads the team with 11 goals and ranks second on the team with 16 points. Sophomore Tyler Kopff leads the Bears with 11 assists and ranks fourth on the team with 12 points. Freshman Brian Nicholas leads the team with 17 points.
- Brown's power play has eight goals in 47 attempts (17%) to rank eighth in the conference. Nicholas leads the team with four power play goals and eight power play points.
- Defensively, the Bears are tied for first in the conference and ninth in the nation with 2.3 goals against per game. Sophomore netminder Lawton Zacher holds a 2.00 goals against average and .935 save percentage in 16 starts.
- The Bruno penalty kill clicks at 76.3% (45-59) to rank ninth in the ECAC.
- Rensselaer enters the weekend with a 9-13-2 overall record and 4-8-0 ECAC mark. The Engineers look to snap a three-game losing streak on Friday.
- The RPI offense averages 3.1 goals per game to rank fourth in the ECAC and 19th nationally.
- Jakob Lee leads RPI with seven goals and eight other skaters have five or more goals this season. Will Gilson leads the team with 14 assists and 19 points.
- RPI's power play clicks at 21.7% (15-69) to rank fifth in the conference and 24th nationally.
- Defensively, RPI ranks 11th in the conference and 59th nationally with 3.7 goals against per game. Goaltender Noah Griesbrecht holds a 3.41 goals against average and .894 save percentage in 19 starts.
- Rensselaer's penalty kill ranks 11th in the conference and 62nd nationally at 71% (66-93).
- Friday is the 112th meeting between the Bears and Engineers dating back to 1951. RPI holds the series lead, 68-35-8.
- Both teams are 10-10-1 in the last 21 games in the series.
- Union enters the weekend with a 14-9-1 overall record and 7-5-0 ECAC mark. The Garnet Chargers sit fifth in the standings with 21 league points.
- The offense ranks second in the ECAC and 11th nationally with 3.3 goals per game. Six players have 20 or more points this season with Nate Hanley leading the team with 24 points. Brandon Buhr leads Union with 12 goals and Colby MacArthur leads the team with 17 assists.
- Union's power play ranks second in the ECAC and 14th in the NCAA at 24.1% (21-87).
- Defensively, Union allows 3.0 goals per game to rank eighth in the ECAC and 39th nationally.
- Kyle Chauvette holds a 2.77 goals against average and .897 save percentage in 23 starts.
- The penalty kill clicks at 75.3% (58-77) to rank 10th in the ECAC and 54th nationally.
- Saturday marks the 70th meeting between Brown and Union dating back to 1989. Brown holds the series edge, 28-26-15, and both teams are 14-14-5 at Messa Rink.
- St. Louis pushed his point streak to seven games with two goals against Stonehill and picked up ECAC Forward of the Week honors.
- He tallied a goal and assist against Merrimack and a pair of goals in the win over the Skyhawks.
- St. Louis ranks third on the team with 13 points despite only playing in 10 games this season.
- Brown captured its fourth straight win with a 5-2 home victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks on Sunday (1/26) at Meehan.
- Ryan Shostak and Ivan Zadvernyuk teamed up for a goal and assist apiece in the opening period against Stonehill.
- Ryan St. Louis pushed his point streak to seven games with a pair of goals and Max Scott pushed his point streak to five games with an assist.
- Earlier in the week at Merrimack, Brown cruised to a 5-1 win behind multi-point nights from Scott, Dean Bauchiero, and Mike Cataldo.
- Lawton Zacher picked up both wins between the pipes.
- Zacher is one of 97 nominees for the 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
- He holds a .935 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average in 16 starts, compiling an 8-6-2 record.
- His save percentage leads the conference and ranks eighth nationally. His goals against average ranks second in the ECAC and 13th in the NCAA.
- Zacher is one of 12 ECAC players named to the list.
