PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown women's hockey (11-9-2, 6-7-2 ECAC) earned a 2-2 tie at No. 13 Princeton (13-8-1, 7-7-1 ECAC) at Hoby Baker Rink in Princeton on Friday night as the Bears are now unbeaten in their last four games. Brown won the shootout 1-0 in six shooters.
Rory Edwards had a fabulous night for the Bears picking up 35 saves, including four saves in overtime that kept the game tied at two.
"Gutsy effort on the road tonight," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "We got into penalty trouble but got it done in a big way with the added bonus of a short-handed tally. We took the first five minutes before we really go to our game so that will have ot improve tomorrow against a disciplined and talented Quinnipiac team. I am proud of the team for earning our first series win of the season."
Princeton jumped on the board early with a goal by Sarah Paul at 2:50 in the first period.
Brown knotted up the game in the second period with Ava DeCoste finding the net at 5:09 for her 10th goal of the season. DeCoste was assisted by Monique Lyons and Sam Broz.
Ten minutes later, with Princeton on the power play, Margot Norehad stole the puck and beat Jennifer Olnowich for the short-handed goal to put Brown up 2-1.
The Bears held the lead until 14:06 in the third period when Paul scored her second goal of the game as Princeton scored on a 2-on-1.
Brown earned a power play early in the overtime period but could not get the game-winning goal through. Brown got seven shots off during the power play but only got one shot off in the rest of the overtime frame. Princeton had chances late, including what looked to be a wide open goal for Issy Wunder but Edwards came across the crease to stop the shot with a glove save.
GAME NOTES
Brown will finish up its road trip at No. 10 Quinnipac at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
