Women's Hockey Remains on Road at Princeton and Quinnipiac

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey remains on the road, heading to #13 Princeton and #10 Quinnipiac as ECAC play continues for the Bears.
Brown will take on the Tigers on Friday (Jan. 24) at 6 p.m. and will head to Quinnipiac to take on the Bobcats on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN

SKATE SHAVINGS
• Brown is coming off its first weekend sweep against St. Lawrence and Clarkson as Brown took both games in overtime against the No. 8 and No. 7 teams in the nation.
• Monique Lyons had a day against St. Lawrence, finishing with her first-career hat trick, including the game-winning goal in overtime. It is the second game-winner for Lyons in OT this season with both goals coming with less than 10 seconds remaining in the game.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Princeton is 13-8 on the season and 7-7 in ECAC play. The Tigers are the only team in the ECAC to have not tied a game this year.
• The Tigers enter the weekend having dropped games at Cornell (1-6) and Colgate (0-4) last weekend. Princeton also lost to Yale 1-2 in overtime on Jan. 11.
• Scoring one goal or less in each of the last three games has been an uncommon sight this season as Princeton is second in the nation in goals per game (4.33)
• Sarah Paul leads the NCAA in goals per game (1.05) and Issy Wunder is second in the nation (0.95). Wunder is third in the NCAA and leads the ECAC with 1.86 points per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown is now 2-1-1 in the last four games against the Tigers but are 2-6-2 in the last 10 games.
• Brown is coming off a 4-3 win over Princeton in the first meeting this season. Brown has not won back-to-back games against Princeton since the ECAC Quarterfinals back in 2004.
• Brown has just one win (4-3, OT, in 2023) in their last 13 trips to Hobey Baker Rink.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
• Quinnipiac is 15-8-3 overall and 6-6-2 in ECAC play. The Bobcats will take on Yale on Friday before hosting Brown.
• The Bobcats have lost three-straight games coming into the weekend with losses to Princeton, Colgate and Cornell.
• Finding goals against Bobcats has been tough as Quinnipiac has the second-best scoring defense in the NCAA at 1.42. The Bobcats also have the second-most shutouts in the NCAA with nine.
• Kaley Doyle is sixth in the NCAA in both save percentage (0.939) and goals against average (1.44)
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown beat Quinnipiac in the ECAC opener for both teams earlier this year. The Bears won 2-1 as Monique Lyons scored the game winning goal with less than three seconds on the clock
• Brown has taken the last two games against Quinnipiac, both at home. The last win in Hamden for the Bears was a 1-0 win on Feb. 19, 2022.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
• Brown is in the midst of a youth movement as the Bears are being led by the underclassmen with freshmen and sophomores accounting for 38 of the Bears 58 goals (65.5%) and 57.0 % of the team's assists.
• The three top goal scorers for Brown are underclassmen with freshman Monique Lyons leading Brown with 12, followed by sophomores Ava DeCoste (9) and Margot Norehad (7).
EIGHT IS GREAT
• Brown's eight wins in the first half of the season are the second-most wins in program history before the winter break. It was the the most wins for the Bears since Brown won nine games in 2004-05 before the calendar turned to January.
ROAD WARRIORS
• Brown is in the midst of a long stretch of games away from home. The Bears have one home game (Sacred Heart) from Dec. 6 - Jan. 25 while playing eight games on the road.
• The stretch started with games at Rensselaer and Union and after playing Sacred Heart, Brown will travel for back-to-back road weekends.
• The Bears head to the North Country for games at St. Lawrence and Clarkson (Jan. 17-18) before heading south for games at Quinnipiac and Princeton (Jan. 24-25).
THE THREE-POINTER
• Brown had two players collect three points against Sacred Heart (Monique Lyons - 2-1-3, Ava DeCoste - 1-2-3) marking the first game two Bears had three points since Oct. 19 against Franklin Pierce when three Bears had at least three points.
• Brown followed that up with three players tallying three points in the overtime win over St. Lawrence. Monique Lyons had three goals, while Ava DeCoste and Sam Broz each had three assists.
SACRED SHUTOUT
• The Bears shutout Sacred Heart for the first shutout win this season for Brown. Rory Edwards picked up her first-career shutout with 20 saves against the Pioneers.
• The last time Brown shutout an opponent was a 1-0 win over Rensselaer in the first round of the ECAC Tournament last season (20 games)
• The last regular season shutout was a 3-0 win over RIT on Jan. 6, 2024 (29 games)
FAST 11
• Brown reached its 11th win of the season in its 21st game of the year, the fastest team for Brown to get to 11 wins in a season since the 2003-04 team that made it to 11 wins in 18 games.
• Brown reaching 11 wins with the two wins last weekend gave the Bears their second-straight season with double-figure wins. Brown had not had back-to-back seasons with 10+ wins since 2005-06 and 2006-07.
