Edwards Career-High 45 Saves Leads Brown to 0-0 Tie at No. 10 Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Brown women's hockey (11-9-3, 6-7-3 ECAC) earned its second-straight tie against a ranked team as the Bears skated to a scoreless draw against No. 10 Quinnipiac (16-8-4, 7-6-3) on Saturday afternoon.
One day after collecting 35 saves in the tie against Princeton, Rory Edwards had a career-high 45 saves and earned the shutout against the Bobcats. Edwards was peppered throughout the game, including making 17 saves in both the second and third periods and three in the extra frame.
"Lots of hockey over the last two weekends but it is serving us well in getting comfortable in the intensity of league games and with every point being important," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "Women are stepping up when their numbers are called. Today a huge credit goes to team defense, mature puck decisions and career game from Rory."
Brown's offense didn't have as many chances, finishing the night with just 24 shots on goal, including only two in the first period. The Bears looked like they might have taken the lead late in the third when Cameron Sikich was credited with a goal that hit the inside corner of the pipe but after review, it was ruled the puck did not cross the goal line and the game remained scoreless.
The Bears were 0-for-2 on the power play but also killed of Quinnipiac's only advantage on the afternoon.
With the game tied after 65 minutes, the two teams went 11 rounds in a shootout that does not affect the standings but will play a part in tiebreakers for the post season if needed. Both teams were scoreless in their first three attempts before each of the next five attempts for both teams were successful. After Quinnipiac scored its sixth goal in the 11th round, Brown was stopped to end the shootout in favor of the Bobcats.
UP NEXT
The Bears will return home for a weekend against Union and Renssalaer on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
