Women's Hockey at Minnesota Showcase for Two Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey opens up the new year at the University of Minnesota Showcase with games on Friday and Saturday. The Bears will take on Minnesota on Friday (Jan. 3) at 5:30 p.m. ET and will play Bemidji State on Saturday (Jan. 4) at 2 p.m. ET.
Both games will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
Brown returns to the ice, playing for the first time since its two-game road trip at Rensselaer and Union on December 6-7. The Bears will be playing Minnesota for the first time since 2005 and this will be the first meeting between the Bears and the Beavers.
The trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes will be the first time Brown has played in Minnesota since a trip to St. Cloud State back in 2008.
Brown's eight wins before the holiday break are the second-most wins in program history before the break and the most for the Bears since Brown won nine games in 2004-05 in games before the calendar turned to January.
Senior Abby Hancock, Junior Maddie Morgan and Sophomoe Galie Levy return to their home state for the first weekend of the new year. Hancock is from Maple Grove, Minn., Morgan is from Edina, Minn. and Broz is from Bloomington, Minn.
The Bears are led by eight goals from Ava DeCoste. DeCoste scored just five goals in her first season on College Hill.
SCOUTING MINNESOTA
• Minnesota enters the weekend as the No. 3 team in the nation in both the USCHO and the USA Hockey polls.
• The Golden Gophers are 14-4-1 on the season and have won three-straight games.
• Minnesota is averaging 3.4 goals per game and allowing just 1.9 goals per contest.
• Abbey Murphy leads the Gophers with 16 goals, 18 assists and 34 points on the year. Natalie Mlynkova is second on the team with 10 goals.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown has lost the last seven meetings against Minnesota with the last four coming in Minneapolis, all during the 2005 calendar year.
• Brown's last win against Minnesota was a 2-1 win in the NCAA semifinal game in Durham, N.H. back in 2002.
SCOUTING BEMIDJI STATE
• Bemidji State is 3-15-1on the year and has lost five-straight games, including a loss to Minnesota on Jan. 1.
• The Beavers are averaging just 1.5 goals per game and are giving up an average of 3.7 goals per contest.
• Hailey Armstrong is leading the way for Bemidji State with six goals in 19 games. Isa Goettl has a team-high six assists.
