Women's Hockey Takes Down No. 7 Clarkson With McDadi OT Winner

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Brown women's hockey (11-9-1, 6-7-1 ECAC) picked up its second-straight top-10 overtime win as the Bears beat No. 7 Clarkson (18-7-1, 9-5-0 ECAC) 3-2 in Cheel Arena on Saturday (Jan. 18). India McDadi gave the Bears the win with the overtime goal.
Brown did not have to wait nearly as long in the extra period as they did in their game at St. Lawrence as the Bears struck 34 seconds into the extra period. As Brown controlled the puck in their offensive zone, Sikich circled the ice and threw and backhanded the puck on net. The puck was deflected by McDadi over the shoulder of Clarkson's Julia Minotti for the game-winning goal.
"I am so proud of the team for finding a way shift-to-shift all weekend long," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "We have been talking a lot about establishing an identity as a team that is hard to play against and relentless. The second and third efforts and ability to stick to the game we wanted to play show maturity. Teams don't always get rewarded for doing hard things so the weekend sweep is rewarding and a result we hope to build on".
McDadi led the Bears with three points, assisting on Brown's other two goals. Margot Norehad and Olivia Fantino each had two points with a goal and an assist each. Cameron Sikich and Jade Iginla each had an assist.
Rory Edwards picked up her third-straight win in net, finishing the day with 32 saves.
After a scoreless first, Brown jumped ahead early in the second as Olivia Fantino found the net for her second goal of the season with assists from Norehad and McDadi.
Clarkson scored five minutes later to tie the game and took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal three minutes into the third.
The Bears, trailing for the second-straight game in the third period, tied things up less than a minute later as Norehad beat Minotti for her seventh goal of the season.
GAME NOTES
Brown will spend next weekend on the road traveling to Quinnipiac and Princeton.
