Gymnastics Takes Runner-Up at SCSU Quad Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown gymnastics team took home second place on Saturday afternoon at the Southern Connecticut State Quad Meet. Brown improved on last week's season-opening score by nearly three full points, totaling 193.125 on Saturday. Bridgeport edged out Brown late for first place at 193.225, Southern Connecticut took third at 190.325 and Springfield finished fourth with 185.225.
The Bears held the lead through the first three events, starting strong by narrowly missing a program record on beam. Junior Liza Marcus took home first place on bars, senior Maya Davis took second on bars and three Bears tied for second overall on beam.
Brown started off the meet with a very strong 48.925 on beam, just off the program record of 48.950 which they matched twice last season. The Bears final three competitors of Lindsey Yang, Emily Ford and Jessica Lin all scored 9.800 to finish in a tie for second place overall. Avery Walters tied for fifth by scoring 9.775 and Marcus tied for eighth with her mark of 9.750.
Next up on floor, the Bears totaled 48.375 with Julia Bedell leading the way for Brown with a 9.775 to finish in third place overall, followed by Sophia Dewar in a tie for eighth place at 9.675.
On vault, Brown scored 47.925 with Dewar leading the team in second place overall at 9.800 to tie her career-high. Bedell followed in a tie for third place overall at 9.775.
Rounding out the meet on bars, Brown was paced by Marcus who tied her career-high at 9.775 to take first place. Davis took runner-up at 9.725 and Ford tied for seventh with a new career-best 9.625. As a team, Brown totaled 47.900.
Brown will return to action next Sunday at noon, hosting their home-opening quad meet against Southern Connecticut, Springfield and Wisconsin-Whitewater. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
