Women's Hockey Travels to No. 8 St. Lawrence and No. 7 Clarkson Over Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey returns to ECAC play with a trip up to the North Country to play No. 8 St. Lawrence and No. 7 Clarkson. The contest against St. Lawrence is set for Friday (Jan. 17) at 6 p.m. and Brown will close the trip at Clarkson on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 3 p.m.

SKATE SHAVINGS
• Brown begins a four-game road swing with two games in the North Country as the Bears will travel to St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Friday and Saturday. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
• Brown is coming off a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart on Jan. 8 as the Bears closed out non-conference play. Both Monique Lyons (2 goals, 1 assist) and Ava DeCoste (1 goal, 2 assists) each had three points in the game.
• Brown will be looking to break an eight-game winless streak in ECAC play. The Bears started ECAC play 4-0 but are 0-7-1 in their last eight games, including a loss to Clarkson and tie against St. Lawrence in the first meetings.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
• St. Lawrence is tops in the ECAC with an 8-1-3 record and is 14-5-5 on the season.
• The Saints are riding a two-game winning streak and have gone unbeaten (6-0-2) it their last eight games.
• St. Lawrence has the third-best scoring defense in the NCAA, allowing just 1.50 goals per game. The six shutouts are the fifth-most in the nation.
• Emma-Sofie Nordstrom is second in the NCAA with a .952 save percentage and is third in the NCAA in both goals against average (1.268) and shutouts (5).
• Aly McLeod and Taylor Lum are tied for the team lead with eight goals each. The Saints have scored at least two goals in each of their last six games since a 1-1 tie against Brown (Nov. 23).
INSIDE THE SERIES
• The Bears broke a four-game losing streak to St. Lawrence with a tie in the first meeting this season.
• Brown has not beat St. Lawrence since winning back-to-back games on Jan. 17, 2014 and Nov. 1, 2014. Both of those games were played in Providence.
• The Bears are looking for their first win in Canton since a 3-0 win in the ECAC quarterfinals on March 4, 2005. It has been 20-straight losses for the Bears in Appleton Arena.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
• Clarkson holds a 9-2-0 record and 18-5-1 mark overall with two-straight wins entering the weekend.
• The Golden Knights only two losses were against Cornell and Colgate on Jan. 3 and 4. Clarkson responded with wins against Rensselaer (8-3) and Union (4-0) last weekend.
• Clarkson boasts one of the top offenses in the NCAA ranking second in goals (100), power play goals (24), power play percentage (.369), scoring margin (2.46) and team points (267).
• Haley Winn is fifth in the nation with 1.00 assists per game.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown fell 4-1 in the first meeting of the year with Clarkson, marking the 18th loss in the last 19 games against the Golden Knights. The Bears pulled out a 3-3 tie the last time the two teams met in Potsdam (Nov. 17, 2023).
• Brown has not won a game in Potsdam since Jan. 13, 2006 when the Bears won 1-0. Brown won three of the first four meetings on the road in the series but are 0-15-2 since.
NOREHAD BACK ON TRACK
• Margot Norehad has five points in her last six games, including a two-goal game against Holy Cross on Dec. 1. Norehad also has two games with assists during the streak.
• Before the streak, Norehad had gone five-straight games without a point after starting the year with points in five of the first seven games of the season.
EIGHT IS GREAT
• Brown's eight wins in the first half of the season are the second-most wins in program history before the winter break. It was the the most wins for the Bears since Brown won nine games in 2004-05 before the calendar turned to January.
ROAD WARRIORS
• Brown is in the midst of a long stretch of games away from home. The Bears have one home game (Sacred Heart) from Dec. 6 - Jan. 25 while playing eight games on the road.
• The stretch started with games at Rensselaer and Union and after playing Sacred Heart, Brown will travel for back-to-back road weekends.
• The Bears head to the North Country for games at St. Lawrence and Clarkson (Jan. 17-18) before heading south for games at Quinnipiac and Princeton (Jan. 24-25).
THE THREE-POINTER
• Brown had two players collect three points against Sacred Heart (Monique Lyons - 2-1-3, Ava DeCoste - 1-2-3) marking the first game two Bears had three points since Oct. 19 against Franklin Pierce when three Bears had at least three points.
SACRED SHUTOUT
• The Bears shutout Sacred Heart for the first shutout win this season for Brown. Rory Edwards picked up her first-career shutout with 20 saves against the Pioneers.
• The last time Brown shutout an opponent was a 1-0 win over Rensselaer in the first round of the ECAC Tournament last season (20 games)
• The last regular season shutout was a 3-0 win over RIT on Jan. 6, 2024 (29 games)
FAST NINE
• Brown reached its ninth win of the season in its 19th game of the year, the fastest team for Brown to get to nine wins in a season since the 2005-06 team also got to nine wins in 19 games.
• The 2005-06 team won its 20th game with a 3-1 win at Yale and finished the year with 15 wins. The 2005-06 team was the last time Brown finished with a winning record.
