Baseball Falls 9-4 in Season Finale Against Cornell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team fell 9-4 to Cornell in the 2024 season finale on Sunday afternoon at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium. With the win, Cornell avoided a three-game weekend sweep and clinched its first Ivy League Tournament berth since 2012.
Brown finishes the season with an 11-28 overall record and a 6-15 record in Ivy play.
Senior Quinn Rooks went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Nathan Brasher was 1-for-3 with an RBI single and an outfield assist, and Andrew Hanlon went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Carter Rasmussen struck out four batters over 2.2 innings of relief.
Brown got on the board with a run in the second inning as Reece Rappoli drew a walk and Rooks drove him in with a double into the left field corner.
Cornell stranded two runners in the third, with a key play coming from Brasher throwing out a runner at third on a base hit to right field.
Cornell took the lead in the fourth with three straight hits, including a pair of singles and a three-run homer to left field for the 3-1 advantage. They tacked on another with a pair of singles in the fifth.
Brown answered right back with two runs in the fourth to pull within one. Rooks led off with his second double of the game and scored two batters later on a safety squeeze by Hanlon. Two batters later, Brasher delivered a key two-out, two-strike single to plate Charles Crawford for the Bears' third run.
Cornell got both runs back on a two-out infield dribbler in the fifth, with two runners hustling around to score from second and third after a bang-bang play at first base, making it 6-3.
Rooks sparked another Brown rally with his third double in as many at bats to lead off the seventh before scoring on a single up the middle by Hanlon to pull Brown within two.
The Big Red put the game away with three key insurance runs in the ninth, the first coming on a one-out single, and the final two coming on a two-out throwing error.
