Columbia Takes Game One of Weekend Baseball Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Columbia used two big innings early in the game to help top the Brown baseball team in game one of this weekend's three-game series by a score of 15-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Mika Petersen and Nathan Brasher had two hits apiece for the Bears. Mark Henshon extended his on-base streak to 23 games with a hit, two walks and two RBIs.

The Lions did much of their damage early with five runs in both the first and third innings to race out to a 10-0 lead, scoring five times in each inning on a combined 11 hits. Brown got two runs back in the bottom of the third after loading the bases with nobody out and scoring on ground balls by DJ Dillehay and Gunner Boree.

Each team scored twice in the sixth inning with Columbia plating a pair of runs on a triple. Brown answered back on a bases loaded, two-run single by Henshon to make it 12-4.

Columbia loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh, but Brown escaped the inning with a force out at the plate and a huge double play turned by Boree, who dove to make the backhanded play up the middle and flipped the ball to Dillehay with his glove to help turn the inning ending twin-killing.

Columbia capped its scoring with three runs over the final two innings, using a sac fly for an unearned run in the eight, and a walk followed by two hits in the ninth.

Brown and Columbia will conclude their weekend series on Sunday with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 11:30 a.m. on ESPN+.
