Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Stetson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team split its first doubleheader of the season on Saturday with Stetson, taking game one by a count of 5-4, before the Hatters rallied late in game two for a 4-2 win. Both games were seven innings.
Mika Petersen had four hits between the two games, including a three-hit, three RBI performance in game one, and Gunner Boree had three hits, including a pair in game two.
GAME ONE
Stetson jumped in front in the second inning on a two-out, two-run homer. Brown got one of the runs back right away in the third when Petersen led off with a double and later scored on a sac fly by Mark Henshon.
The Hatters put another run on the board in the third, only to see Brown answer in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2. Nathan Brasher led off the inning with a single and then swiped second before scoring two batters later on a single by Petersen. Stetson pushed the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning on a solo homer.
The Bears rallied to take their first lead in the sixth, starting with four straight hits to start the inning. Andrew Hanlon and Charles Crawford started the inning and crossed the plate on a two-run single by Petersen. Brady Dever later knocked in Petersen on a ground ball for what proved to be the winning run.
Senior Paxton Meyers went the first five innings to pick up the win, allowing four runs on seven hits and struck out two. Jacob Young tossed the final 1.1 innings to pick up his first career save.
GAME TWO
Brown kept the momentum rolling into game two, striking for two runs in the second inning for the early lead. Dever led off with a double and Boree followed with a single to put two in scoring position with nobody out. Reece Rappoli knocked in a run with a sac fly, and Boree later scored on a wild pitch.
Making his first career start, freshman Ryan Oshinskie tossed a solid 4.0 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Stetson rallied with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth, with the game-winning blow coming on a one-out, two-run double.
Brown brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh, but a double play ended the rally.
Brown will look to earn a split of the four-game weekend series on Sunday in the finale. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
