at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
In the latter game of the doubleheader, Paxton Meyers shined and went a career-long 8.0 innings, allowing just five hits and striking out seven. He now has 100 career strikeouts as a Bear.
GAME ONE
Bryant struck first with a run in the second but the relay from Nathan Brasher to Gunner Boree limited the damage as Boree threw out the Bulldog runner to end the top half of the inning.
The Bears erased the Bryant lead with one swing as Brady Dever cleared the fence for the first home run at Attanasio Family Field this season.
In the top of the fourth, Boree showed off the arm again as he tossed out a Bulldog runner trying to stretch a blooper to a triple to end the inning unscathed.
Brown tacked on a run in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead behind Mika Petersen's single up the middle. Dever continued to collect RBI and his two-run single extended the cushion to 4-1.
Bryant scored five runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and six in the seventh to take a 15-4 lead.
Brasher punched a double down the right field line to bring home Boree to begin a three-run seventh for the Bears and cut the Bulldog lead to 15-7.
Bryant added a run in the eighth and ninth for a 10-run lead.
Boree went yard on the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth for his first home run of the season, but Bryant picked up the series-opening win 17-8.
Jack Seppings (1-2) was charged with the loss after striking out three in 4.2 innings. In relief, Jared Burrows (2-3) picked up the win in 1.1 innings.
Dever finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and Brasher was 2-for-4.
GAME TWO
Meyers induced a 6-3 double play as DJ Dillehay stepped on second and threw out the runner to end the top half frame of the game.
Meyers shined all afternoon with seven strikeouts in 8.0 innings. The right-hander allowed just four hits and two runs – one earned. Jacob Young threw a scoreless ninth. Luke Delongchamp went 7.0 innings and allowed the sacrifice fly in the seventh. Sean Zaslaw tossed a scoreless eighth before Zach Nichols blew the save to erase the Bryant lead.
Down 2-0 in the seventh, Dillehay began the bottom frame with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Reece Rappoli to make it a one-run game.
Petersen's speed was on full display as Dillehay's liner up the middle plated the leadoff hitter and tied the game at 2-2.
Small ball led to a run for Bryant as a pinch hitter (normally No. 29 Aleksei Goldhill) scored on a single to make it 3-2 Bryant.
Young fell to 0-1 on the year despite punching out five in 2.0 innings. Nichols moved to 2-0 despite the blown save.
Dillehay went 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two.
