Softball Takes on Merrimack in Weekend Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball will host Merrimack for a three-game series over the weekend. The series will start with a doubleheader on Saturday (March 16).
Saturday's doubleheader as well as Sunday's single game will start at 12:30 p.m. All three games of the series will be streamed on ESPN+.
SCOUTING BROWN
Brown is 4-7 on the season after splitting a doubleheader with Holy Cross on Wednesday in the Bears' home opener. Brown took game one against the Crusaders 7-2 before falling 8-3 to close out the day.
Brown had a season-high 10 hits in the win against Holy Cross with Moe Kastens leading the way with three. Jasmine Hsaio, Laurel Moody and Dara English each had two hits in the win.
Alexis Guevara picked up her third win of the season with a complete game effort. Guevara allowed just four hits and one walk, while striking out five batters.
Freshman Lilly Burns was 3-for-3 from the plate in game two. All three of Burns' hits were doubles and the Bears' catcher finished with two RBI in the contest.
Hsiao leads Brown with a .414 batting average, 12 hits and five doubles. Hsiao is also 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts this season.
SCOUTING MERRIMACK
Merrimack is 3-16 on the season but is coming off a 3-0 win over UMass in its last game. Prior to the win over UMass, Merrimack had lost 11-straight games.
Merrimack has been outscored 118-37 through the early part of the season and the Warriors are hitting just .215 as a team. Ellen Hubbard is one of two players on the roster hitting above .300, hitting .375 this season with a team-high 21 hits.
Madie Fornwalt is the leader in the circle for Merrimack with a 3-3 record in seven appearances. Fornwalt has a team-best 2.90 ERA in 41.0 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Brown is 1-1 all-time against Merrimack with the two meetings coming in the first weekend of the season last year. The Bears won the first meeting 7-5 before losing 5-4 in the second matchup.
