Baseball Falls Late at Stetson in Series Opener

DELAND, Fla. – The Brown baseball team gave up six runs over the final two innings in a 7-2 setback at Stetson on Friday evening in game one of their four game weekend series.
Six Bears picked up one hit apiece in the game, with DJ Dillehay tallying an RBI single and Brady Dever scoring a run.
After having one baserunner through the first three innings, Brown pushed a run across in the fourth to take the lead. Miles Newsome led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball before scoring on a single by Dillehay.
Stetson drew even in the fifth, using consecutive singles to start the inning and tied it on a one-out sac fly.
The Bears answered right back to take the lead with some two-out magic in the sixth. Dever singled with two outs, advanced to second on a hit then stole third before crossing the plate on a fielding error by the second baseman to put Bruno back in front 2-1.
Brown starter Jack Seppings delivered a shutdown inning in the bottom of the inning, needing only six pitches to get through his final inning. He allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out four over 6.0 strong innings of work without issuing a walk.
The Hatters struck for four runs on four hits against the Brown bullpen in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-2 lead they would not relinquish. They added two more insurance runs in the eighth without the benefit of a hit, thanks to an error, two walks and a hit batsman.
The same two teams will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. There will be no live broadcast, but live stats will be available.
